I am considering starting Wow but i have some questions to ask and i trut your judgement/guidance.

1)I dont really understand...

Do you pick a realm then make characters in that realm then decide on them if you are going to be pvp or pve or whatever else you cant be?? or do choose a realm then a playing thing (I mean pve or pvp) then all the characters you make have to play in there???

2) is it horde or alliance all the time??

I mean do you pick one then you are stuff in that group forever or can you make different characters in each ?

3) is it really worth the money ?

for me its like ?8 a month $15 atm i think cos of exchange rate. As well as the ?20 to actually buy it.

thanks

Play the trial and find out.

I personally dislike it because it's boring and pretty much requires you to be in a group to even progress in the game.

1.) You can make Six Characters on each Realm. You can only choose 1 side per realm. So say you pick Illidan as a realm and you choose to play alliance on that realm, you can only make alliance characters. You will have to choose a different realm and choose to be Horde if you want to create Horde characters.

2.)See answer 1^

3.)Yes it's worth the money. Just be careful to spend your time wisely. This game can get VERY addicting. It is a VERY good game, and good number of people tend to hate popular things. This is the best MMORPG out there.

Progress in wow = raid gear. So yeah, you need to be in a decent guild to progress. There's no character development aside from getting gear upgrades.

Realms are divided by the rules that govern them. On a PvP (Player versus Player) realm, then as soon as you enter 'contested' or 'enemy' territory you are attackable by enemy players. Most territory in the game is contested so you'll be open to attack anywhere at any time, and likewise will be open to attack others.

On a PvE (Player versus Environment) server, you will always be 'unflagged', that is, unattackable, unless you specifically make yourself available to attack or unless you enter enemy territory. Attacking other players who are flagged for PvP will flag you, so you can't abuse the system too badly.

Some realms are also 'RP' realms, which stands for Roleplaying, where each player is supposed to imagine his or her character is a real person in a real world and play them accordingly. Thus you wouldn't talk about last night's football in /say in a tavern because your character wouldn't know about last night's football.

Other than this, realms are functionally identical - different only in terms of player population and raid progress, ie how far people have got through the game.

You can create ten characters on every realm, and those characters are bound to that realm unless you pay to transfer them to another one. You can switch between characters freely but not that on PvP servers all your characters must be either Alliance or Horde - you can't be both unless you're on a PvE realm.

Your choice of realm won't limit you to either fighting only monsters or only players - it simply changes the rules of engagement a little.

Later on, you'll find that giving your character certain abilities and skills makes him or her better at certain things - better versus players or better versus computer monsters - but that's another story.

I would say WoW is worth the money. It's a fun and engrossing game with a strong social element and it'll last you a long time. If you're a fan of exploring in games, or of atmosphere and story generally, then it'll be perfect, because WoW's environments are really impressive and a joy to explore and wander around. There's a real sense of a coherent world, and the background lore is pretty deep.

It's funny I read this topic today, because I just canceled my subscription not but a few hours ago. :O

Absinthe, you know you'll go crawling back to your sugar daddy again.

I've come to terms with that possibility, but I doubt it will be any time soon. I simply don't have the schedule to afford raiding any more, especially now with a timezone difference from my realm (and I don't feel like transferring and starting over again). While that will eventually change, a lot of it also hinges on the next expansion. BC was fun in the beginning, but near the end I began to hate certain parts about it and the effect it had on the old world. The new raid encounters just don't feel as fun and epic as the old 40-man content did, heroics are a total snore, and alt grinding became a tedious affair. I also don't like a lot of the retconning and positively ridiculous additions that were made to the lore. It may just be the flavoring around the game, but as somebody who has had an active interest in the WC universe since I first got into PC gaming (and which was also the entire basis for me picking up WoW to begin with), it grated the ever-living shit out of me. And if the upcoming content patches and expansion show any indication, I think this kind of lazy writing - as I perceive it - is just going to continue that way Blizzard can pull out any half-assed lore explanation it needs to justify gameplay issues.

"Can't balance the two faction-exclusive classes? WHOAH, SPACE GOATS AND EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL WIND CHIMES. Now both sides have them! Convincing, eh?"

ADDED: Oh yeah, and Dalaran will be the new Shattrath too. How epically ****ing weak.

Yeah, this character made a similar "copy post from another board" in the hardware section which I deleted. He copied a post word for word from another website and the post he copied was made a year+ ago.

burning crusade ruined wow. youve missed the wow boat.

nothing beats 40 man raids.

Indeed. My account expires today.. I've played TBC a fraction of what i played original WoW and within a couple weeks of getting 70 i'd farmed 6k to get epic mount. In 2 weeks i'd got exalted with Netherwing and Skyguard Shatari for the 2 special epic flying mounts and now i'm back to 3500 gold. My guild is 6/6 SSC and 2/4 TK and the game is boring as **** compared to normal WoW, and any old noob can get epic gear on the same level as what raiders bust their ass for.

Roll on Tabula Rasa.

It's a shame Naxxramas didn't get much time, yeah?
