Windows repair, as in you put the CD in to boot off of, get to the point where you're about to install windows and it tells you that you have a copy already installed and asks if you want to repair it? Nope, I've done it 3 times.

Tell your dads friend to get a swappable harddrive for daily backups so you dont have to worry about loosing files

Repair rarely ever works though man, try to get the data he needs and do a complete reload. . .
