quick question...upgrading in dec.03

my current computer blows ...so im upgrading in dec. i have about $750 USD to spend... i was wondering what i should upgrade to.

my current shit:

1.5ghz
512 ram
a gay mobo :x
a gay beige case :x
dvd player
cdrw
SB audigy 2 platinum
ti4200 gf4
300W power supply (thats about to die or somthing :\ )

heres what i was thinking of upgrading... i dunno if 750 will do it, but i hope

Intel P4 3.06ghz/HT
Soyo Dragon Ultra SY-P4X400 DRAGON ULTRA
RaidMax Scorpio 668 Blue Mid-Tower Case ( black or blue )
Two(2) 512MB DDR 333MHz PC2700 RAM chips (hopefully OCZ)
420W power supply

and ill probally upgrade my video card in march of 2004 (my b-day)

switch the 3.06 to the 3.0, the extra 200 some-what fsb is far more useful than the 60mhz

do NOT get that motherboard, I have heard nothing but bad things about that line of soyo boards(i have one). I would cut to about a 2.6 with a 800 mhz fsb as it would save you enough to get a new vid card, maybe a 9600 pro(so you can see dx9). and dont get ddr333 with a p4, get ddr400 so you can get the full speed fsb.

thx guys, but ima keep the 3.0ghz and maybe OC it :\ ...ill look into other motherboards. weird because ive seen some good reviews on the mobo. i really dont want a video card this year. ill wait till my b-day for a video card. and ill get some of that ddr400. anybody wanna make my lazy ass an estimate for all that?

if u really want a P4 system, either of the links sidewinder gave u are cool.... but i'd personally recommend AMD 2500+ and a the Asus AN78X Mobo... but that's just me

hmm ive been checking out review sites, the SOYO SY-P4I875P DRAGON 2 PLATINUM doesnt seem so bad, homer, can you tell me more about the SOYO issues? only thing i can see bad so far is where everything is ...which kinda sucks cause most of it blocks airflow when things are in inconvenient places. im still searching tho...

If you are not upgrading til December, I wouldn't be seriously thinking about parts now.
Prices will be changing by then too.
That intel setup is good, prices decent too.
They currently have a Athlon 64 3000+ for notebooks but if they are making a Athlon 64 3000+ for Desktops soon and if those 64 3200+ prices drop at all from 400$ by christmas...the Athlon 64 3000+ would be your best price/performance at that time no questions asked.

But a good video card is a must for gaming. Higher priority than a good CPU.
