Sorry if this is off-topic.

I want to learn to model and was wondering what program you guys use. I know Milkshape is popular, but the trial already ran out for me and I is broke. (on top of that, I feel uncomfortable sending money through the mail to their site. I'm paranoid.)

Do I have any other choices?

how many more post are there going to be like this, can we sticky another one, so people stop asking the same question over and over and over and over ?

PS. dont pay money for Milkshape, the only thing it is good for as a program, is the large number of import export file types. i considered it a long time ago, then found GMax. thats my recomendation.

Okay, so I downloaded gmax and it looks pretty good... but... I can't seem to find where you can change .gmax files into .mdl files. Ack!

Sorry if this is obvious. I am not very awake.

you cant, youll have to use a plugin, if you can find one, or get someone else to convert the file using something like Milkshape.

PS. dont moan about 'why dont i just use milkshape' cause, if you want to get anywhere, and have a general understanding of 3D, which can be applied almost across the board, then GMax is a better starting point.

Okay, thanks. I kind of like Milkshape's vertexes, but I guess I'll try Gmax. I just wanted to know because I need to make a quick and simple model for my newest map (a bunch of seats in a train, which would put r_speeds a little too high) and wanted something quick and easy to get the job done. Of course, nothing is quick and easy. :)

Thanks for your help.
