I was watching tv and before they started the Phi vs. Atlanta football game they did the pledge of allegiance. But when they were doing closeup of some of the soldiers they were crying well some of them. Why exactly would they cry just for singing the song? Pride or what?

By pledge of allegiance do you mean the National Anthem?

Yes, they feel Pride.

Of Course.

And it's a lot more than that. If you ever heard the term, 'The crowd was electric' and don't get it. you should go to an event like this.

You feel the auro of thousands of people surronding you. So when they all shut thier yaps, stand fast, and hold their hands on their hearts for our anthem it is a bit emotional...

For the people who defend their freedom even more so. I'd guess.

I felt something like at the Sugar Bowl last year...the game had just ended, and our band started playing our victory song...we all started singing. This is about 30-40 thousand people all hugging each other and singing together in the Superdome. It was overwhelming.

That's it... You got it... No reason for this to be, or anyone to turn it into, a political thread... Just some guys letting their guard down.

What temptation? Just because you dont respect your country doesnt mean other people shouldent respect theirs. Oh wait, but thats the big white male nationalistic, third world exploiting redneck talking. Spare me.

It's that chill you get when you hear the national anthem, or any other just as valuable song, like "Proud to be an American"

Multiply that chill with a big group setting, like others have said, and an emotional environment of respect, and that's what will happen.

Even though I hate country, "Proud to be an American" is an awesome song.

(Yes I know it's not really country..but it's a country singer..meh)

I think it's rather silly how emotional you get when you hear your national anthem. But we are from different cultures, raised in different ways. You could only expect there to be some diffrence, so you just have to live with it.

it makes people feel proud to be part of the country, and we are all one big happy family :D

Eh? You don't get that little 'chill' (not so much a chill, but generally all over, at times it raises the hairs on the back of your neck) when hearing your national anthem?

(Not infllamatorry... I can't spell, but really asking. Everyone I've known has, as they're proud)

National Anthems are just powerful tools; and I love hearing them.

National Songs are kick-assordley too. As for emotional, I might get emotional about some; as for others, I feel emotion and strength to them.

It could be my country, it could me ... Russia.
