Was Black Mesa just the name of the research facility, or was it also the name of the location? If not... was Black Mesa in a real state, like AZ or NV or something?

Black Mesa is the facility but we never find out what state it's in.

Black Mesa (The funny shaped mountain to not confuse you with BMRF) is in Arizona. But close to the New Mexico/Colorado/Utah state border. But it is easy for the facility to strech beyond the border.

Was the film Evolution inspired by halflife, because the film was made close to Lake Powell (this is mentioned in the film), and Lake Powell is next to Black Mesa, and is about aliens
