It's getting old. Seeing these posts about how disappointed people are because the hydra wasn't in the game and the sniper rifle wasn't in the game and this and that. If you genuinely feel jipped because of the missing scenes and a couple of missing weapons then I feel bad for you.

Maybe valve should have been smarter and warned people that the demo movies may not represent the final game. Maybe they shouldn't have shown any demos at all.

The fact of the matter is some people hyped up their own expectations based on the demos. If you can't take into account, through common sense, that games hardly ever adhere to their original plan, then it is partly your fault.

And what about the things in the game that were not shown in the demos? Concentrate on those, quit whining about a short, scripted scene you didn't get to see. This game is much more than the hydra and a f'in sniper rifle which can be easily made in a mod.

Some people make me laugh.

Transmit just made me cry. Go away.

Thirded

Not that it will make a difference though. I have found modern gamers to be capable of whining about just about anything they can think of.

LOL srry for that , i suddenly care about what the dude said in the first post :)

-_- its unfortunate that any complaint is met with "shut up little kid whiner, its the best game ever, you just complain too much"

i liked it, but it doesnt live up to the time they had to make it (it feels like the game was rushed thru in a few months, which is astonishing seeing as to the 5 year development time)

the story was the main problem, it was basically "go here, there are enemies in the way, shoot them, get there, oh no! suprise attack! shoot more enemies to get to a road with more enemies,to get to a base with more enemies"

too much action, not enough dialouge (which is dissapointing, seeing as the amazing NPC work they did, probibly the most lifelike NPC's in any game... ever)

Game of the year, no question, but something went wrong...

Is there any game out there where nothing went wrong???

I hate it when people expect games to be flawless and then when its not they whine. Its a good game, can we leave it at that and not spend gigabytes of bandwidth discussing its minor flaws?

And can we stop this stupidity as well? Did I say it was the best game ever? No. I didn't call him a kid either. I'm pointing out that people need to use some f'in common sense. If you are led on so strongly and so easily by what game companies tell you and the demos they show you, you are setting yourself up for expectations that can only be disappointed. That is really your problem and you need to wise up.

And yea, some people ARE complaining too much about something pretty irrelevant. Valve told me this was going to be in it and it isn't. Who gives a crap about what Valve said was going to be in it?

You judge the game based on it's content and what you play, not the disparity between what someone SAID it was going to be like and what was in the final game.

Pfft...that would be EASY...and intelligent...and mature...(list goes on)...who wants to do that?

Yeh, why didnt gordon just go for that citadel in a straight line?
No he needed to go to a town infested with zombies and take paths where there were tanks along the road and where there was some toxic shit laying around

Because it was fun... :|

pr0nking thats an interesting point so basicly this thread is based on hipocricy...... and to say that peoples expectations were too high because demo vids showed more appealing things than the actual game is absurd....the finished product should be better than the demos not worse....it might as well be considered false advertising

to The Mullinator

um.....have you ever played a console game....they are the final product.....there are no patchs for them....thus they are flawless...pc games are the only ones that can get away with being released unpolished.

i think its to be expected when people get excited about this suposed revolutionary game then haveing to wait another year prolonging your hardon until finally its released and its to the effect of rosie odonnell when your expecting pamela anderson

besides all this people have a right to their opinion

Thats probably the hardest thing people need to realise on this board.

Yeah, VALVe knows this and their working on it.
People can flood every HL2 related forum with their complaints and flames to VALVe if they want; but the fact-of-the-matter is that it's not going to help get the fixes out any faster, and will only act as flamebait.

People think that just because they whine that things will get done faster... nope, I'm very sorry.

People having problems just need to calm down and be patient. Yeah, it sucks that they have to wait for fixes, but what can you do about it (other than whine and annoy HL2 communities)? Nothing... so why why do they keep doing it?

*continues his never-ending search for the point*

There is really only one reason why console games have fewer bugs than PC games, and its because when developing for a console there is only one system you have to develop for. There are no variations of the Xbox to worry about, no custom Playstation 2's. PC's on the other hand have an incredible amount of problems that can occur and have to be programmed around since there are just so many variations of computer hardware, software running on them, and operating systems.

That is why PC games have just as many gameplay related bugs as console games but alot more hardware and engine related bugs.

Exactly! When developing for a PC game, you have to take into account hundreds of Hardware combinations. With consoles... it's static, that console never changes.

If you've completed the game I suggest you guys hit the storyline forums. There's actually quite a lot of little details Valve put in to the game and much more depth to what may initially seem to be a shallow story than what you'd might expect.

As for whether or not Valve was too subtle about it, I think it's a matter of personal taste. Personally I would have like something more blatant but it still didn't detract too much from the game for me.

How about this: people will stop bitching about the minor things that don't really matter when the fanboys stop orgasming over the game simply because it is Halflife2 and they are blind to any problems there are in the game.

And anyways, it's pretty easy to spot a complaint post. If you don't want to read a post from another person complaining, don't click on the thread.. Pretty simple.

i'm sorry if i wasn't clear enough but i wasn't refering to bugs....
i was refering to such things as simple loading screens that give
you some story or supplimental text to read while waiting for
game to load rather than a box saying loading that doesn't move
or anything to display progress.....simple things like that can
improve the game

if i can realize this youd think they could

Thank you for the unsolicited preachy lecture. I think maybe you shoulda posted this onto a thread that was already going. One in which people were already discussing this issue.

Anywho I hope the irony of what you just posted isn't lost on you. A thread complaining about how people complain too much. Mmmmm...irony .... arrgghhhhlllglhglhglrllghllll

my expectations were not high, half life 2 failed in certain aspects, its not the home run everyone makes it out to be....

its an 8/10, but here if i say anything but 9.9/10 or 11/10 i am told that i expect too much, or that i didnt understand something... which is not true...

People have a right to their opinion in a democratic nation.
Halflife2.net is not a democratic nation.
People seem to forget that a lot.

i'm a bit confused .....isn't that the whole point of a forum... discussion, and opinions

It's funny (or rather frustrating) that people can't post critical opinions anymore. If your viewpoint isn't supported by the majority, it just gets stomped out.

The main think lacking is evidence to back up both positive and negative viewpoints. "This sucks" and "That rocks" are all to common these days.

The best solution is simply to be mature and responsible when posting criticism and counter-criticism. People (generally) respect a well-informed opinion. For example, a post dedicated to telling someone they spelled a word wrong does no good for anyone, and just makes the corrector look foolish. Instead, use the word in a sentence (correctly spelled), and you won't be viewed as self-righteous. Also keep in mind that not everyone here speaks English as a first language.

I appologize if this sounds like I'm being up-uppity. I'm as bad as the next guy.

Half-Life 2 is God. . . . :E

without a doubt, HL2 will be the most controversial game ever. I wasn't around for the release of HL1 but it seems like it never received any of this constant debate on perfection vs. shit. Maybe over the time the lAm0r whiners will all go away... :E

you're right, it's not the home run, it's the grand slam :D

what kind of a gamer are you? RPG, FPS, strategy? how in to Half-Life were/are you? because my hardcore RPG/strat fans didn't really like HL2 . . .until they played HL1. I'm not assuming you didnt, Im just saying a lot of peopel won't fully appreciate HL2 without completing the first game...i can't give you any specific reasons why . . . it just is.

i think the ones who realized it's greatness were the FPS/haflife hc fans. . . .

Threads like these are pointless. If you look back in the history of most of the people commenting on HL2 (in this or in another forum), you will realize that people who praised it before release will praise it after and people who bitched before will bitch after. It's not about an objective view of the quality of the game, it's about people backing up their bias.
