So, I declared a couple of days ago that this next pack of cigarettes i'm about to open tomorrow, is going to be my last one.

...BUT, I just realized that I highly doubt that'll work out. But I declared it, and the rules of manhood state that once you've called it out, you gotta do it.

Oh well, wish me luck.

Should have realized what a dumb-ass mistake starting to smoke would be right from the beginning! I could have told you that!

But... I'm not one to talk.

If you were a smoker, you'd realize that nobody really just "starts". Shit snowballs.

Nobody just sits there at the convenience store and decides "oh, I think i'm going to ****ing start smoking, GIMME A PACK".

It starts with peer pressure.

I avoided a shit ton of peer pressure back when I lived in Alaska. Cigarettes, cigars, and marijuana. No alcohol though.

you should just get rid of that pack and start now

I'll do it if you send over a pack of nicotine gum

I dunno if peer pressure is the word.

I started because I thought it made me UMG SO ****ING COOL. No peer pressure involved.

Just don't doubt you fail, will make it a lot easier.

I actually did go into the convenience store and go "Oh, I think I'm going to ****ing start smoking, GIMME A PACK".

Same difference.

Well, the difference is that I was told by all my friends not to smoke, even the ones that did smoke, but I did it on my own accord. Nobody sat there and offered me a cigarette, nobody told me "it relaxes you so much man" or "it's so nice when you drink". I just went up to some kid that smoked, and decided to bum one off of him.

I guess it's not much of a difference, but I still like to think that I did it because I decided to be stupid, not because somebody influenced me to be stupid.

Then again, I guess thinking it was cool was influence enough.

**** it :/

Do they really give you that much joy? I just find it so hard to believe. That nicotine addiction must be pretty powerful.

i think the difference for me is, i really dont think im addicted. ive been smoking for 4 years now and honestly i dont care to stop. i enjoy driving down the road with a cigarette in my mouth. i like the way it relaxes me. i like the smell. i like the taste. hey, i dont blame you for not wanting to try it, but im happy i did. to each his own.

Hey man... some kids like eating dirt and glue. More power to you.

The addiction may be the only reason he enjoys them, but regardless, he still enjoys them.

When you're addicted, life sucks without a cigarette. But when you do have one, life is just oh so good.

I was the same way, I absolutely adored cigarettes, and then they started making me feel like complete crap. Throat burning, spitting like crazy, coughing like a mofo, empty wallet, shortness of breath, all that jazz.

If I could smoke cigarettes just because I wanted to, not because of some crazy brain impulse making me all jittery, I definitely would. Shit's good.

good for you sinko. I myself just quit almost 2 months ago. And I did the same thing. Bought one last pack, smoked them, and that was it. Although it helped that I've been sick twice since then (cause when I'm sick I never jones for the nicotine).

I'm kind of compulive, or something. Like even when I didn't want a cigarrette at all. Even when I did not want one, I would smoke one anyway. Once in a while you have a great cigarette, but tbh, it's pretty rare. And you are always trying to feel that way again, but 9 out of 10 are absolutely disgusting or just meh. That made it easy for me.

Also, the expense was really frustrating. I wasted so much money on it, and all those times scrounging for change and shit.

I could go on for an hour about smoking, but I've got shit to do brah

so tell you what. I think that anyone can quit if I could. I am like the poster child for addiction. Alos I smoked for something like 13 years steady and smoked some when I was about 14 also.

The fits will be tough at first, but if you can endure them for a few days, it gets easier. After about a week, it just gets on easy street, with an occasional hardship like after fast food or something. But at this point, you are still good to go if you bum one. You'll realize that it's not as good as it used to be. It's pretty nasty to you by now. JUST DON'T BUY ANY, because then you've got 20 available and you are still vulnerable. It only takes 20 to get hooked, that's why they come in packs of 20.

The best way to deal with the first week shakes is to take your mind off it. Endure it like it's a bad part of a drug trip that will pass. The best thing is, the shakes, although pretty fierce, only last about 30 seconds to a couple minutes. Get some gum and go talk to someone about anything. Anything to get your mind off it. And you won't even realize you are over it.

I learned to sort of enjoy the shakes. You know? Just to feel something.

My compulsion and addiction is food.

Om nom nom nom.

Well, i've only been smoking for a year or two, so I like to think that i'll probably not get those awefull jitteries that I hear so much about.

I used to smoke. I changed to Snus. It's not as disgusting and you can do it everywhere.
Now I feel like crap the day after if I ever smoke when im out. So I never do. Almost.

There was a few times I was 90% ready to **** some shit up. Knock over a convince store even. RAAAGGGEEE

Well, worst I'd have done is probably just grab a pack and run if spotted.

The jitters isn't the bad part. It's breaking down - **** THAT I WANT ONE I DONT' GIVE A **** ABOUT ANYTHING

but somehow it passes. I think I found a butt or two by really digging, and that got me by.

And yeah, If I smoke a cigarette now, holy shit I feel awful for hours. God damn that shit is pure poison and you can feel it. Your performance is just shit physically after. and you can feel the poison smoke trapped in your skin and pores. It truly is horrid, and you don't realize it when you are a smoker.

Snus... snuff... chewing tobacco... dipping tobacco... are not as disgusting to you as smoking?

Wow.

Here's my opinion. It's WAY more disgusting. Even when spitting is not involved.

You shut your whore mouth.

Snus > Smoking anyday. Most people couldn't even tell that im doing it, exept for you know, when they actually see me put one in. And here almost everyone does it.

I am just avoiding ciggies altogether.

I mean apart from anything else they smell terrible.

Sinko, I didn't even give you the game plan. You must spend all your money before you quit. Then you CAN'T buy any.

And shaking down your poor ol' mom like a loan-shark, for $5, will make realize how shitty addiction is and what a monster it's made you.

No matter what, just keep trying at it. The less you breakdown and bum one, the easier it will be to continue with your plan.

"Hey mom, could you lend me five bucks?"

"Sure honey."

"I'M A MONSTER!!!"

Gonna stop smoking, eh? Good for you and good luck! Shame about them cigarettes though...

Ugh same here. It seems like everyone around where I live does it. It is only disgusting when they spit it on the gym floor or in the water fountains.

I've been smoking for about two years now and the last time I had a cigarette was about 2 and a half weeks ago. I haven't cared for wanting one since. What made me stop was me not wanting to spend darn near 7 bucks on a pack.

I've been broke for a while now. Only reason I have this pack that I just busted open is because a friend of mine got it for me. The last pack I bought, I spent god knows how long picking change out of my car, trying to find that last dollar.

So, while I was smoking my morning cigarette, I couldn't help but notice that I felt like complete shit.

My mouth got as wet as your sisters pussy, my throat starting stinging, and it felt like somebody took a shit on my tongue.

And so the transormation begins.

I smoke quite heavily when people offer me cigarettes, but I've only bought two packs myself in my whole life.

Never think "I don't think I can do this" when trying to quit. It will make it that much harder. Just keep your head high and never give into the addiction for "Just one cigarette, I won't have another after." in the middle. You won't stop. It will just snowball back to normal. I've known 3 friends that have just recently tried to stop and are all smoking again because of that one cigarette when drunk.

Props for quitting.

I agree this plays a huge role in it. It's only as hard you make it. The nicotine withdrawal only lasts about 3 days. After that it's all about fighting your cravings. You should realize going into it that at some point you are going to tell yourself "just one won't hurt" but it does for exactly the reason pitz said. Fortunately it only gets easier as time passes. You may have (mild) cravings even years after quitting, but I don't agree that you can never get over the cravings. Personally I never even think about them anymore.

We're on opposite tracks. I couldn't even start if I wanted to. Hope it works out for you. I hear too often from wannabe quitters 'Yeah, I'm quitting tomorrow' or 'I had my last cigarette this morning', only to see them on the smoke deck puffing their life away. It ain't easy to kick the nasty habit and I commend you for taking the initiative.

Whoa joule hey there, it's been a while!

I usually smoke about 2/3rds of a pack a day, but for the past week I've only smoked about 7-8 cigs total. It's actually not really a big deal, I'm a little tense but I don't notice it that much.
