How well does the ati radeon 9600 series run CS:S? If you have this card, please post your specs and tell me if it runs smoothly (what fps?). I want to buy Source but if I have to play on med/low and the game looks/plays like crap, I probably won't. Thanks for your replies.

I have a 9600xt...on most maps i get about 50-100FPS..it goes down to 30 on aztec. But this is also running it at full detial. I have a amd 2600+ (overclocked to 2.01ghz) a 9600xt and 1 gig of ram.

radeon 9600 pro
amd athlon 64 3200
1 gig ram 3200

max fps of about 110 min 40-50

everything on max 1024x768 no AA no AF

cool! Thanks a lot for your replies guys. those are really good results.

damn i think my cpu must be bottlenecking my system...

amd 2400+
768 meg ram
256meg radeon 9600XT

i get 25-35fps on average @1024x768

Amd 2400+ @ 2800+
768MB/DDR Ram
256MB 9600Pro

I get 40-55Fps

resoltion? settings?

what ati drivers are u using?

AMD Athlon64 3000+
512MB RAM
128MB Radeon 9600XT

Don't know the exact framerate, but I've just been playing for half an hour and not once did the framerate seem jerky even in big firefights... at 1024x768... extremely playable!

hey guise, any aa or af? also, does it play better in 800x600? (ive got the exact same system cept for a 9500 pro, which is near similar to the 9600xt) also, does it play the same in higher resolutions (i actually noticed this w/ ut2004). i plan on buyin cs later tonight

Wow, I have 9800 pro and I've never hit 100fps in Source.

i turned everything on high 6xaa and 16xaf to stress test (46.7fps) i forgot ad i was playing aztec 30+fps all times with those settings 9600xt stock speeds/

HERE's Teh TRUTH

Radeon 9600 xt,

2.8 ghz CPU

1 gig Ram

160 gig hard drive

all on high setting's, 2x AA, 2x AF, 1024 x 768 averages 40 / 45 fps

who said you needed to blow your wallet on an X800 series ;).

i leave aa and af off

when i bumped the res down to 800x600, the fps was slightly better on aztec, around 25-40... but it was still all over the place.

when i run the stress test i get something like 50fps on 800x600 and about 42 fps on 1024x768... so i dont know why cs:s runs so erraticly

im getting new catalyst drivers now

erm..what would i get?

1.8ghz p4 (overclocked to 2.0ghz, just for 3dmark05)
768mb ram
radeon 9600xt 128mb

CS:S is like HL2 right? I am planning to run on 1024x768 with everythign on highest. What u think me would get? in HL2?

thanx

most likely the same thing i git i have a similar system.

ok, i installed the newest ati drivers and they seemed to have done the trick

im running on 1024x768, 2xaa and 2xaf in the stress test i get 46 fps (800x600 with no aa or af gets 52fps) and running cs i get 30-45fps

that, i can live with :)

specs:
2400+
768 RAM
256meg radeon 9600XT @ 564/339 clock

p4 1.8GHz
512ddram
9600 pro
800x600

On de_dust I play with 10-50fps, which truely sucks.
On the stress test I got 62fps as average.

if i have a 9600xt
xp 2600
512ddr

what fps u think i would get?

2000 ghz
512 pc2700 ram
9600 256mb

avg of 30-40 fps with everything on high, no AA or AF.

I won't be able to get a new comp 'till next summer :(

I don't know what the hell happened from beta to final, but all of the sudden I'm getting framerates in the low 20's rather than up in the 80's and 90's. For example, the video stress running with no AA, no AF, at 1024x768 on a 3Ghz CPU, 9700 Pro, and 1024MB of RAM is returning an average of 27 FPS, where before it was above 100. No matter what I do, this performance does not change. It's a real pain in the ass.

Check that the video settings haven't changed. They did on me. Bumped me down to 800x600 and medium quality. Recommended settings for my 9600XT, apparently. I'm gonna how it fares with more detail tomorrow.

Tested every single setting possible. No matter what I do I get 27 or 28 FPS. I even turned off all DX9 and DX8 shaders, sticking the card in DX7 mode, and I still have that lousy performance. Something is obviously wrong here, so I'm going to mess around with drivers now.

Updated drivers, no luck. Still have piss poor performance. It really sucks, because I KNOW I was flying in the beta.

Athlon XP 2600+
512MB PC2100 DDR RAM

highest settings, Trilinear filtering and 2x AA, at 1024x768.

I get around 30-40fps average, with around 30-35fps average in the Video Stress Test.
