im running a Powercolor Radeon 9800pro on my new ASUS A7N8X-E DELUXE mobo, and its becoming an absolute nightmare!!!!!

in games i get colums of squares made up of red dots. i also get blue lines across my monitor in windows!!! argh!!! it looks like a really bad printer has printed a page with thin and then think lines across it (if that makes sense lol). Initially i was told it was a heating problem. i took the side panel off and blew a room fan into it, and this ALMOST prevented it from happening, although it would come back for a few seconds, then it would just disappear again.

ive tried reinstalling the card from scratch, reseting the bios, leaving it running for a while, reinstalling dx9.0b...everything i can think of. could it just be the card??? i see no scratches/burns etc what-so-ever.

i decided to go with ati as my fx5600 was crap..but now, it looks like an RMA for a nvidia card instead.

DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE ANY IDEAS??!!!!

Powercolor 9800 Pro's have some "issues"....Email powercolor about getting it fixed.

powercolor are shit manufacturer's i have a powercolor 9600xt, and im not exactly happy with it either.

Where did u buy it from?

thinking of RMAing it. im tempted to go with the fx5900xt from sparkle (as i can get it for the same price). never ever had problems with nvidia before tbh.
is this a good idea or not???

Powercolour suck. You proberly best taking your gfx card back. Never buy anything from powercolour because they have a massive bad track record. Including with my self.

lol sounds like powercolor suck then. got it from microdirect.co.uk as it said it was an 'ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB DDR 8X AGP DVI TV Out OEM (Branded Powercolor)' and i didnt see the powercolor part till i recieved it lol. anyway, will the 5900xt give decent performance on dx9 games (ie hl2)???. i heard that nvidia's higher end fx cards arent that good when it comes to dx9.

anyway im gonna rma it then.

The 5900xt will suck in HL2. The FX cards are bad. You can get a 9800 pro from newegg for $195. Sapphire, MSI, or one built by ATi, they're all good. Do not get a 5900xt because Powercolor's a bad manufacturer, it is a BAD decision.

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=property&DEPA=1

All of newegg's 9800 pros. I suggest the Sapphire or the MSI. Connect 3D might be good too.

Edit: For some reason it doesn't like the link. Just go to Newegg.com you'll find them.

ffs im in huge problem now. do i go for another radeon manufacturer and hope for the best, and get decent prformance in dx9 games...or do i get a more reliable card and sacrifice the performance.....god damn it i hate this decision lol. u guys sure i should get a different 9800pro manufacturer since powercolor are so crap??????

im gonna rma it tomorrow and get a different one anyway....is connect3D any good??? i can get a connect3D 9800pro 128mb for £3 more. i hope its just the powercolor and not my hardware....tho that cant be it surely.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET ANOTHER 9800 PRO!! You will regret getting the FX, cause nVidia totally bomb the FX series for DX 9 games... the only decent card they have is the 6800 series (which the X800 still smokes)

what are your options for a little more money like that? ... i've never heard of connect3D

well i could get a sapphire 9800pro for £10 more, whereas the connect3D are £3 more than powercolor's. which is more reliable (if this problem happens again...then screw ati :))??? i need to know by tomorrow (monday) as that's when i'll be making my order for a next day delivery, else im stuck with no card lol.

kk. omg i cant believe u havent seen the UK's pound sign b4 (£). rofl. ill go for sapphire then.

thanks for the help guys, i appreciate it :):):):):)

before you RMA, make sure you check your voltages. either download motherboard monitor 5 or go check in them in your bios. if your 3.3v line is low, that could be causing your problems.

What you describe is almost certainly a damaged core.
RMA it to your retailer straight away and they should send you a replacement under the warranty.
It will be another powercolour , as they are under no obligation to change your order.
But thats not such a bad deal as powercolour perform just as well as the rest (Im using the exact same one myself right now).
You most likely would get the symptoms you describe , from a crushed or otherwise damaged core , you havent mentioned whether you have changed the heatsink for a third party one.

Your nightmare was a bad Powercolor card, not ATI. ;)
If you bought an Nvidia with a bad card what would you do?

You will be happy with an ATI 9800pro. I have had zero issues with mine, not even driver related.

I had a card draw some blue lines and bars with red dotz before, I took it back, it was a POS 8500LE. I found out it was the card by pushing *up* on it while it was running 3d apps. The bars changed shape and color.

I am now sitting happily with a sapphire 9800pro which I must say has no faults of any kind. I will most likely stay at a 9800pro until the x800 gets "out of date"

BTW - the 8500LE I had became a legacy card almost 3 months after getting it.

yeah man.. don't give up on the 9800 Pro because of the Powercolor brand..
listen to what Asus and Maskirovka are saying.. they know their stuff.. especially Asus.. hes our resident hardware guy :)

ive recently found out that it was corrupt memory on the card. called up ati tech support and they instantly told me without missing a beat lol. ive just bought the sapphire atlantis 9800pro 128mb, so ill get that tomorrow.

thanks for all the help guys :)
