I ran hl2 demo and my GeForce 4 runs it smooth better then my friends ATi Radeon 9600

Glad I got my 9800!!! I must DL these when I get home from work!!!

ascii mode is really brilliant to check out in motion.. sketch is awesome too.
not to mention an nice performance boost.
and some cooler options to shake yo cpu at

just in case you guys didnt see I posted pics of all the effects, scroll through the pages

Umm... so? Those effects are corny, I would rather play it the way it was intended.

You, sir, are an idiot.

The page isn't loading for me. It says Critical Error. :( What was it?

of course the effects are a lil corny... but can your card do it? hehe
anywhoo I was showing off some neat things the didnt have to include in a driver patch, but did anyway because they can.
the cool thing is to see it in motion. Im just giving you guys a heads up, gro grab the latest cats ;)
serious though, as gimmicky as it is, its pretty damn impressive in motion with not 1fps lost.

that's because your gf4 is running dx8 and your friend's 9600 is running dx9. the 9600 would kill your card if it was also running in dx8.

Oh man that stuff is cool on a 9800, the text one is awsome but i wouldnt game with it like that. It hurts my eyes.

nvidia owned, really? take a look at the benchmarks which include dx9 games ... http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1896&p=1

from that article:

Right now NVIDIA is at a disadvantage; ATI's hardware is much easier to code for and the performance on Microsoft's HLSL compiler clearly favors the R3x0 over the NV3x. NVIDIA has a long road ahead of them in order to improve their compilers to the point where game developers won't have to hand-code special NV3x codepaths, but for now ATI seems to have won the battle.
Next year will be the year of DX9 titles, and it will be under the next generation of games that we will finally be able to crown a true DX9 winner. Until then, anyone's guess is fair game.

nobody owned. for current games, nvidia is perfectly good. don't buy anything until the game you most want to play comes out (most likely hl2 if you're on this forum) and wait for final benchmarks...and more driver releases. people upgrading now in preparation for hl2 are just wasting their money

YAH, the new radeon drivers are out (Catalyst 3.8.)
www.ati.com for downloads

anyway its pretty damn impressive... not only has it introduced a huge performance jump

it has some nifty lil effects we can play with
(screenshots at 1280x1024, the res I play at) this shows of the "sketch" shader effect. it doesnt effect performance at all, which is pretty nifty.
there are a bunch of effects, this is the first one I tried, and its pretty damn cool

I got the drivers, they're installed and all the good stuff for my 9800 Pro, but I can't find all these cool video effects. Where am I supposed to go in order to try them out?

it doesnt scroll but its damn close enough to the effect that it feels like it.
it changes and is dynamic, its pretty impressive to look at actually. still shots dont do it any justice

are all of those options available for all cards?
i only have five or so on my 8500
