Hey, you. Are you a mapper? Are you looking to do something a bit different? Perhaps you're looking for a different perspective to map from. Well, allow me to introduce you to Ragnarok Arena!

In case you haven't figured it out yet, Ragnarok Arena is a sidescrolling game built on the Orange Box engine. It's multiplayer focused, with the headlining gamemodes for Beta 1 being your classic Free For All, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. Gameplay is frantic and reminiscent of old-school shooters. If it moves, you should probably shoot it until it stops.

Ragnarok Arena isn't a newcomer to the community, either. In one form or another we've been around the bend, having released our Half-Life 1 version in late 2006, a version which went on to win the Editor's Choice Old School Award from ModDB. The Source version, Ragnarok Arena Remastered, was our Source testbed as we fiddled with the Orange Box, and it shows with build quality that was less than superb. Still, it's the project that keeps us coming back time and time again for one simple reason: It's fun. It's not only a blast to play, it's actually pretty enjoyable to work on as well. Not to mention this is the platform that we learned quite a bit of our skills on, and I'd personally love to see it get to the point where someone would say "Yeah, I'd like to spend twenty dollars on that". But hey, I'll gladly settle on people just playing it and having fun.

So why start again? Aside from the fact that it's a great project to work on for us, we've been able to take all the criticisms from previous releases and iron out something that I'd like to call the "True" spirit of Ragnarok Arena... if I even knew what it was. Really, we just have a very clear idea of what we want to do now, and we're doing it. We'd just like your help as well.

Now, if you think brushes are just used for painting, we've still got a place for you! With the rapid changes that we've been doing, we're in need of a small battalion of beta testers who can help find issues when they arise and otherwise help us get a smooth-edged product out. We're looking for testers using a broad range of computer hardware, in order to make sure the mod runs on PCs that aren't quad cores with eight gigs of RAM.

So! If you're interested, or simply think I'm a raving lunatic, I'd like to hear from you! I can probably be reached the easiest at my E-Mail, [email protected]

Thanks for your time!

We're still on the lookout for beta testers, as we're going to be beating the mod into submission over the coming week. Anyone that is interested should direct their attention to this thread on our forums.
