how much does ram play in fps and app use?

im goona be getting a 512x2 2-3-2-6 or 2-2-2-5 timing ram, 3200.

i dont konw if i should scarafice the timings for a 3500 or even a 3800,

im a n00b to overclocking, dont even know wtf a flash means, but im really want optimum performance for hl2

specs in sig, tell me if its worth upgrading ram, will the cost performance diff be worth it?

Jus stick with 3200, i doubt you will overclock as far as needing faster ram. Just overclock your core then your ram a bit.
If you are not going to overclock dont be stupid and buy expensive ram as normal Corsiar value or Crucial ram will perform just as well for much much cheaper.
