So today i am going to purchase a stick of 512MB DDR PC3200 ram and it got me thinking... is there really a huge difference between branded ram and generic ram sticks?

i understand that the popular brands such as OCZ have a higher clock speed...but are these clock speeds high enough to notice?

perhaps in December 2005 when i am building a brand new PC i will try a branded stick instead of the generics.

comments? thoughts? advice? thanks :)

ive heard bad things about shitty value ram. Just get the better quality stuff, like Samsung, it'll be worth the potential problems you could get with shitty ram.

hmm...anyone else wanna chime in on this?
Asus? blahblahblah? anyone?

I'd stay away from the cheap memory. Also the memory that costs way below the mainstream memory wouldn't be a good idea either. There is a difference in performance but the big thing is quality. Will it last? Will it get memory errors and make your PC crash? Also compatibility can be an issue.

Samsung makes great quality memory that isn't expensive or flashy but has solid performance. That is a safe bet. Other brands such as Crucial, Corsair, Kingston, OCZ, Mushkin, Geil are great as well.

I would stay away from brands such as Kingmax, Twinmos, Micron etc.

Even going into a Best Buy or Compusa and buying their cheap memory, you will end up paying about the same as buying good quality memory online.
