Hey currenty im running the Athlon 2800+ Barton core CPU with 768 DDRam PC2100 And since the 2800 is caperble of running 333 FSB but the PC2100 are only supporting 133 Im forced to run my cpu on a very low speed, tomorrow tho, im going out to buy a clip of 512 PC3200 who ARE capreble of a 333 FSB, Now to my question I have the ASUS A7V8X wich only supports one PC3200 slot of memory and ive read that u can mix with diffrent types of ram like in my case:

a 256 PC2100 clip
a 512 PC2100 clip
and a 512 PC3200 clip.

Now, will i be able to do this? I will only have ONE clip that supports the CPU speed.
Or will i have to remove my old clips and only use the 512 PC3200?

it willl work with all those modules in, i think that perhaps the pc3200 will be forced to slow down to pc2100 as that is what happens when you have 800mhz rdram and 1066mhx rdram. So if you can afford it go for 1gig of pc 3200

As i said, my mobo only supports one slot of pc3200 :/

Your 2800+ fsb IS at 166(333).
Your memory speed right now with pc2100 is 133(266)
If you buy pc2700 you can run in sync with memory and fsb which is best. Your memory would then be at 166(333) just like your FSB. You can actually get less performance using 333 fsb and pc3200 ram. Best to run in sync (the same speeds). Not to mention pc2700 is cheaper.

if you have both pc2100 and pc3200, the pc3200 will slow down to pc2100 speeds.

What Asus said.. I had the same dilemma with my 2500+ on the A7V8X-X, if you read through the manual, it should have some warning in there, "(Note: When using 333MHz FSB CPU, system memory supports DDR333 only.)"

I'd go with PC2700, like Asus suggested

Well you can run pc3200 but it just won't be the best performance (out of sync) and pc2700 cost less.

Last time I checked 32 and 27 prices was nearly identical, oddly enough :)

Anyway, does it really bring worse performance? I benched 3DMark2k3 a long time ago, using 133/133 and 133/166, there wasnt any difference... But then again, cant really remember, maybe I need to do it again :)

Okey so if i buy a pc2700 clip i can still use my old memory?

The prices for PC2700 and PC3200 may over lap but if you looking at the same peace of ram just different speeds its about 10-20 $ difference now i guess.
It isnt much performance difference when not in sync but why spend 10-20 dollars more when it gives you 1 or 2 fps less unless you plan on OCing.
Buying a 512mb stick of pc2700 or 3200 and ditching(selling) your old ram would give you a bigger performance boost than having a lot of ram I would think. Although you could always have 2 sticks of pc2100 512mb (1gb total) and run in dual channel if your board supports that.
just throwing out ideas.

Clip = Stick?

Stick with PC2700. Cheaper too! That's what I've got.
1,536MB PC2700.
