RAM optimization

I have 768 MB of RAM and was wondering how I can make sure that I am using as much as possible of it for HL2. Also, it says I only have abou t 450Mb of FREE ram, how do i increase that number?

Also, I want to buy another 512Mb stick of ram. How do I find out what type of RAM my computer is using. I know it's DDR SDRAM, but at best buy there are different types. PC3200 and PC2700 and so on. Does it matter which I buy?

Increase available RAM by getting rid of superfluous processes. Also, make sure you haven't got any malicous programs hiding in there, eating your resources. I would reccomend AdAware and Spybot S&D. Run them both for maximum effect.

I believe 2700 and 3200 will run together just fine, but always at the lowest common speed. IE, if you had a 3200, a 2700, and a 2100, all three would run at 2100.

I'd also like to know how I can find out what type of Ram I'm running. I have one stick 512DDR but I don't know the details. My next purchase after HL2 will be another 512 stick, should I match the specs up to my current one?
