Ive got 2 sticks of 512mb Kingmax ddr400 running, and 1 stick of KINGSTON 512mb ddr400 sitting in my drawer. (its not strictly mine yet, but it could be...hehe)

How strict is the rule about same brands of RAM? What are the chances of this extra stick actually screwing anything up? (sorry im a bit of a n00b at this RAM business)

Will the performance increase be anything special?

The companies tech support will warn you that there is no guarantee that different models, even though it's the same company, will be compatable with eachother.

I had eMailed Corsair about mixing my current model with a different model with idential operating specs and what they gave me pretty much just seemed like a disclaimer about compatability so that I couldent bitch if it didnt work.

However, I'm 90% sure that as long as they operate at the same specs (MHz, CAS, Voltage, etc.) that it should work just fine.

I'm going to order some more RAM today actually and hopefully it will work just fine.

I have 4 DDR2 1GB sticks, and they are from 3 different companies, no probs here.

It doesn't matter what specs, since they'll all go down the the lowest common speed, latency etc.

Generally different brands of memory work together very well unless there is some odd compatibility issue between models or your board. Try and see. ;)

Grab CPU-Z to check up on the Memory speeds and latency.

I just installed my new stick, and everything seems to be working fine so far.
