My friend has just bought some new ram but its diff from the stuff he's allready got, diff speed and a diff make.
Will this be ok to put in with the stuff he allready has or will it cause conflicts?

Thanks for any help.

It really depends...

Generally you ought to get the same RAM or faster. It's advisable to get identical RAM, but it's not necessary, it just makes it easier. If it's slower (max clock rate or higher timings), then the mobo will most likely go with sort of the lowest (slowest) common denominator from the two SPDs -- or it may need to be set manually.

Yep, psyno is right, sometimes it conflicts with non-matching RAM and sometimes it's fine. It depends onf the pickyness of the motherboard really, so just tell him to keep his fingers crossed.

90% of motherboards are smart enoguh to see the difference, and they'll clock the faster ram to the speed of the lower ram.

hmm i always thought that the mobo would only recognize one of the ram sticks. So if I had a 512mb of kingston pc2700 and added 512 of corsair pc3200, would it be basically the same as having 1 gig of pc2700? I have a AUS a7n8x mobo btw.
