hi.
i know i shouldn't be asking general tech support questions but here goes. i was trying to install some ram today and the locks that hold it in place wouldn't fit over the brackets on the end. is this because i have the wrong ram? or can the backets be adjusted?

You mean the RAM is too thick, so they cant latch in? Or what?

it's thin enough side to side it's just it's too tall
the parts of the ram the inter locks with the latches are above the latches
maybe I'm doing somthing wrong?

Well, sometimes you have to use a little force. Can you still see any of the pins?

I use my thumbs along the top edge to press. Make very sure that the gap or gaps in the connectioning edge match exactly. The locks click into place on their own as the RAM moves downwards.

It's always one of the most alarming bits of building a PC. If you're not convinced it's the right size, compare the new stuff to any installed RAM you have.

Not quite as alarming as before when I had to put my fan/heatsink onto an AMD Thunderbird, since you had to force it down and it cliped into place. Had to use a flat-headed screwdriver on a little lip and force it down. Ohhhh jeez I though it was going to bust.

lol
