I just posted a comment about Rancid in the "what are you listening to" thread, and i wanted to find out what you guys think about Rancid.

Good bassist but pretty cliche run of the mill punk. They should probably stop putting so much time styling their mohawks or sewing studs to their denims and actually churn out some good punk.

Fair enough. It's been a while now since the last album, but i think that And Out Came The Wolves
is a exelent album. Hell, i like pretty much all music from Rancid.
Tims voice and pronunciation is awesome and Lars and Matt Freemans vocals are pretty darn good too.

Edit: Damn it, i wanted to make it a public poll...

I think I heard maybe one song and decided I didn't like them... I forgot what it was though.
But I just remember it being way too I want to say whiney but I can't really put it into words cause that was a long time ago.

I don't hold a very high opinion of this band D:

I like them a lot, but it's like 35 percent nostalgia.

Yeah, they're a pretty good bass solo.

I mean band.

I think rancid is pretty overrated, I don't really like them.

Ok. But what do you feel about Transplants? With Tim armstrong, Skinhead Rob and Travis Barker.
Or Lars Fredriksens side project Lars Fredriksen and the bastards?

They had a catchy song - that famous one, I forget it's name - but over than that it was just Rancid lite. I just feel theres better punk out there, most that isn't too far concerned about it's image and keeping up with looking the part or sounding like every other hardcore bay area band from years before.

Name some whould you? I might have heard them.

i use to love these guys back in like 7th and 8th grade.

Tim Armstrong is in or started every band in the bay area.

EDIT: And LA.

Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, The Descendents? All really great bands with some brilliant lyrics but over the years they've been copied and followed by hundreds of other punk bands, mainly because they were really the founders of the hardcore scene but also because the genre simply hasn't got many places to go.

Punk, to me, is all about the lyrics. A punk band needs some really good ethics and ideals to stand out to me, and Rancid just sounded cliche and angst and just generally trying to hard to sound alike to most hardcore punk. Musically, punk isn't much special or something I want to listen to on it's own, except for the odd occasional musicians like the bassists from Anti-Flag and, yes, the guy from Rancid.

the 10% of rancid that isn't purely image is alright

i used to listen to them whilst in the throes of puberty and middle school, don't quite have the same appreciation since; only punk i can stomach any longer is old school stuff like DK, black flag and minor threat

Old school? Those are all eighties hardcore bands.

I liked Rancid because I desperately wanted more Operation Ivy. It worked for a while...:x

I was always to believe that Minor Threat and Bad Brains were the founders of hardcore punk, and everything else before was just dull old punk rock (except for The Clash)

Not that it matters, because no matter which way you look at it, the 80's, for music, is still wildley recognised as an old-school, founding area for musical genres.

Bad Brains i like, and Black flag. Not Dead kennedys so much thou. Guess i grown tired of em.

But now that i think about it, I want to put them on. :p

I saw them live at Gilman St. 'back in the day'. It was a fun show, but I haven't heard one of their songs for years.

I actually like rancid, it was one of the first bands i liked, and i started around my 4th grade, which is pretty young compared to the others who starting liking them when they hit puberty. And like others, i really wanted more Operation Ivy!

...And out come the wolves happened to be in my dance-hall crashers case, so now I'm listening to it. oi oi oi

I used to like them quite alot. Operation Ivy and Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards are both better, though.

But Wolves is a great album, also.
