Random crash back to menu screen, please help!

Okay, i'm having a weird error and it's driving me nuts... it happens in offline mode and online mode..I wonder if someone could help me maybe?

I've just started Half Life 2, I've gone through the station, onto the streets, up a ladder, over a fence, past a playground and into a building on the left, i go down a corridor and open a door, it says loading, then brings up the main menu screen. No matter what i do, it happens every time. Am i doing something wrong? Please help if you can, i've been dying to play this game for ages and only just managed to download it properly and now can't even get 5 minutes into it!

The Demo is Ravenholm or before Ravenholm or something... right?

I've never seen it. I'm hoping for a demo with something like Uplink. Uplink was cool.

wow, that was weird... I tried updating and it didn't work, so i checked the file sizes of it all, deleted it, re downloaded it, and hey presto... it's bigger, and works. I guess somehow something didn't get downloaded. It said 100% though :/ ho hum. thanks for the update suggestion.
