I've been thinking, a lot of us gamers/interwebz dewdz are into heavy metal and such. And so am I indeed. I have a very broad liking of music. I like everything from Blues artists like, Riley Jackson, to heavy metal bands like Killswitch Engage. I would not really call me a rap fan. Because though I like the some of the older stuff, I rarely listen to it.

I was wondering about rap though. I like old school rap like Run DMC, The Sugarhill Gang and rappers that started back then but still make music. Like Beastie Boys and Cypress Hill. I despise rappers like Eminem. I dislike the rap music that is played now a days.
What happend to rap music?
How do you guys feel about rap music?

Talk amongst yourselves /me disappears into fog
(By the way, rock/metal pwns rap music! :p )

I love Rap. I think it's just about the most fresh, innovative and interesting genre in music today. What makes it awesome is that it is still so young!

The only hip hop group I've ever heard that didn't support my old belief that rap is not music is the Blue Scholars - few obscenities (I'm not an obscenity prohibitionist, but moderation in all things... ), and, more importantly, politically charged, intelligent music. Check 'em out, especially Blink and Evening Chai.

Yo Pen, did you know that a bunch of the "stereos" in eli's lab and kleiner's lab and elsewhere have the Blue Scholars playing on them?

Atmosphere - F*ck You Lucy For anyone who thinks rap can't express pain or true emotion.
Phi-Life Cypher For anyone who thinks rap can't have clever lyrics (ABC), intelligent political content (The Racists, Fatcats), and always supports drugs (Class A Material) and violence (Rhyme of the Times)
Rage Against the Machine's vocals were rap and their lyrics were extremely clever and politically charged.
Eminem is a bit hit-and-miss, but when he's good, he's very VERY good.

If you are getting into rap ignore the Billboard top 40 garbage (though some is not bad most is just cookie cutter formulated crap)

Try out :

The Cunninlynguists

Jurassic 5 (kinda campy, but in a good way)

Sage Francis (came out of Providence)

RJd2 (british producer has a lot of good work)

basically anyone who goes under the radar for the most part :afro:

rap is simply talking to an annoying and repetitive beat....

coloured americans do it best, but the UK's artists are just soooooo ****e!!!!!!!! LONDONERS CANT RAP!!!! IT SOUND SO CRAP AND TYPICAL STUPID BRITISH ACCENT!!!!! god just give it up ffs for the love of all who listen to MUSIC and not TALKING

I saw them live at Reading festival last year - it was f*cking amazing!

Run DMC
Beastie Boys
Aesop Rock
Tupac

Thats about all the rap i listened to.

 Rap, Hip Hop whatever. Just like how Rock music is split into different types, Rap/Hip Hop is just the same... you've got Gangsta, Horrorcore, Southern, Westcoast, Eastcoast, abstract, commercial, underground to name a few, can't think of any others right now. I dig artists from the Underground scene, they often times diss mainstream artists, and their lyrics and messages are often times very much different than what you hear on the radio. But there are some artists in the Mainstream I dig though.

Haha.

I just saw Jurassic Five at the Fox theatre in Boulder.

I've also seen Sage Francis a bunch of times.

I'd like to add to my list

The Streets

I love rap...but the streets are my only exception

Good rap artists- Tupac, 50 , jadakiss (if you heard his diss on 50 cent you would think so), eminem, snoop (he's ok), anyone from g-unit (including former member The Game).

If that group everyone around here seems to idolize, Linkin Park, found it worth their while to team up with Jay-Z, well if your heroes can appreciate rap maybe you should reconsider it.

Seriously, dimissing rap out of hand by just calling it crap really detracts from some of the most talented artists and especially producers working in the music business today.

 Game is still part of G Unit. It was a freakin' publicity stunt!

whats I like of rap is that is like modern poetry and sounds very cool sometimes

but what I hate are that rappers image/sellers of nowdays that made videos showing expensive things like thinking we will worship them for it

off course not all are like that but a LOT are like that

and the true I prefers the old school rapers, even when I see theyr videos I see they were more cool, for example they hav old american muscle cars and that gang looking and the rappers of today just go on bentleys or anything that "show they hav money"

Jada is REAL good at freestyling. BTW have you heard check mate? He gets so many shots in on 50 cent it's almost unbelivable!

Rap is ok with me,but I only like the onces who really have a ture meaning instead of singing bullshit.

I'm can't stop listening to the 2 Immortal Technique albums I bought, this guy is the best m.c I've heard in ages.

What I don't like is how much ignorance is displayed whenever I sees hip-hop mentioned on this forum, judging an entire genre based on a couple of records you heard on the radio is just stupid.

God I couldn't agree more.

No, Game is still signed to Aftermath but he is no longer part of the G-Unit posse. 50 and The Game our cool now but the did not invite The Game back into G-Unit. Dre and The Game are really tight so The Game is staying on Aftermath and having nothing to do with G-Unit.

Rap is my favorite music-genre, and has been for a few years..since I was 11 yr old actually..and first heard tupac :) (who I still concider to be the very best by far)

I agree that the rap nowadays sucks compared to the classics that deathrow records and rappers like Biggie put out in the 90's.

Still get's you thinking.. 'what if' tupac had still been around.. rappers like 50 cent, ja rule, and the game wouldn't even be in the rap scene right now..

Yeah tupac was like the best rapper who ever lived, and I really liked the songs Runnin' and Ghost on Ressurection
