Rates in config

Can someone tell me what correct rates are? I'd like to know so I can check if they're right. I'm trying to figure out why, all of a sudden, I'm lagging on a server. I just did a full defrag, disk cleanup, installed the newest catalysts, fixed up my router, etc..

Lagging wouldn't have anything to do with the models that I just downloaded, would it? (skins and stuff) I do the stress test at current settings 55-65 fps.

Also, in my config file I can't find 'rate'. It was at 9999, and I set it to 20000 through console (I think).

My cmd_rate is at 30 and uprate is 20.

Thanks!

Its all depends on you connection speed really. If you've got something like a 512k then cl_cmdrate 80 and cl_updaterate 80 would be good. If you have anything higher than 1mb then just put cl_cmdrate 99 cl_updaterate 99. Your 'rate' setting at 20000 is perfect though ;)

Alright.

I was looking at someone else's for the 30 and 20, I thought those were regular..

512k = cable/DSL regular?

Is it right to have the rate in config? I added it in there, ' rate "20000" ', I dunno how it was set in console..

Just leave 'em... I play fine with defaults and even when I do mess with them, I never see my ping decrease.

Will these only affect my ping?

I'm getting 20-30 ping to the server.

It seems to lag when enemies start to shoot at me, and when I enter a new area (when I walk out of the garage in office, when I walk into a corridor, always the same places).

Just the question about rate, though, I'd like to know that one.

Also, just a little thing, I found a setting called "skill" in my config. it was set to "1". I wonder what happens if I change that :p.

Lag when enemies start shooting at you? That's PC lag. And when you go into a new area, that's PC lag too (if only VALVe would let us turn on Triple Buffering, :().

Alright, why would my PC suddenly start lagging when I've been playing the game for 3 months, no lag? It does the stress test just as fast, well maybe 5fps slower, if any.

Could it be the physical computer server? They recently got a different server, if the comp is slow (they're upgrading them soon), would it make that kind of thing happen?

My comp is:

XP-M @ 2.3 ghz
512 mb ram
Radeon 9600XT

Running it at all high settings, 1152x864, no AA/AF.

I've, basically, got the same system, the only thing being different is I have a 1.8GHz processor. I run all High, 1024x7--, 2AF 8AA. So, I dunno. I know sometimes my game studders when I start shooting sometimes. In fact, it just happened to me a lot, actually. Hmm, it might be the server then.

Today, I was playing, switched to a different server and it studdered like a bitch.
So, yea.

Alright, I should be safe in that area then. I'll wait until they get onto their new server (As in, the new machine for their server).

Changing your config wont change your ping. It will appear lower on the scoreboard but in net_graph 3 it will be the same. So try net_graph 3 and see what ping your getting.
