Hello, I am the leader of a MP modification for source. Our mod is called Resident Evil: Source. The mod was originally titled Viral Outbreak until I emailed Capcom and asked if they minded me to use thing name for a nonprofit modification. They said they didn't and wished me luck so now we have the Resident Evil name.
We are in the process of getting a site up over the next few days. I already have a coder(not me) a mapper(not me) and weapon skinner(me). Anyway, I guess you all want to here the plan for the mod.
Well at the beginning of the game there is only one zombie. The zombies have a lot higher health than the humans and the only way it can be killed is by shooting it in the head, removing the head(we think coding for it wouldn't be too hard) or burning them.
The only downfalls the zombies have are that they don't have ranged attacks(we may allow them to throw items later) and run at 80% of the human speed. The zombies have to attacks. They have a regular arm lunge attack and a bite attack. The bite attack infects the human and causes him to lose health unless an antidote is used. There are limited amounts of the antidote and they are all located near the zombie spawn.
The downfalls of the humans is that they don't have as much HP as the zombies and they only have limited ammo. The humans must also find the weapons to have any. They spawn with various melee.(knife, bat, hockey stick, shovel) Also if the humans pick up too many weapons it begins to overencumber them and slow them down. The humans also have the advantage of barricading doors and what not because the physics of the Source engine allow for this.
We have brainstormed that we will use several locations that will pay homage to old zombie films and games. One of the maps which will probably end up being our first will be set inside of a shopping mall. I bet you can guess what movie that pays homage too lol. The other map we were thinking about doing would be set in a mansion. We also have many other map ideas that are original and don't correlate to any old movies or games. We also want to possibly have one map inside of a police station. Inside there would be the only full auto gun in the game an MP5.
Weapons will be aquired from weapon caches that make sense in placement. For example in the mall you would find your guns at a gun store located inside. You would find a nailgun in a hardware store.
The weapons which we want to include as of now are a .44 Magnum hand cannon, a shot gun of some sort(maybe 2 different ones for different maps like a sawed off and a non sawed off version), a hunting rifle like you get at a gun shop, a nail gun and various melee weapons. Basically we want the arsenal to be of weapons that you could actually aquire if you were overrun by zombies and you raided the local gun shop or sporting goods store.
