They definitely did their homework when they designed the map.

Or they went to wikipedia and looked at some photos.
 
they make the game feel so drab when your playing in those parts when in reality it looks a lot greener. also i think those camera men probably have a Gieger Counter which is absolutely necessary in that area of the world
