1) I had Real player working fine

2) I had to download Real player 10

3) I uninstalled real one and installed real player 10

4) Some of my audio files needed software downloaded before playing, which were uninstalled with real one

5) I couldn't download the software, and the problem appears to be with the firewall, or maybe the source website it's supposed to download from

6) I uninstalled real player ten and reinstalled real one player

7) It still didn't want to download the software

8) I got angry so I searched for codecs to make it work on other players

9) It worked, except for the files the needed the special software

10) Real one stopped completely from working

11) Install and uninstall wouldn't make it work

12) I unistalled the codecs to make it work

13) Real player still didn't work

14) I reinstalled the codecs and they didn't work as well

I'm totally stuck with ram files!!

I'm not expecting a solution to the problem, since probably non of you has it.

But do any of you know if I could download the real player software manually?

I mean, what if someone had lots of ram files that need it, and has no internet connection? It'd be obviously stupid not to make it available independently.

Your problem is very easy to diagnose and solve.
It's the Real players and uninstall anything to do with them. Never use Real media either.

You can get a .ram converter program...a free download online. (see digital-digest.com)

I'm sorry you ran into issues with the devil (Real).

Search google for:

"Real Alternative"

I think it lets yoiu play real player files in windows media player

actually, what i whole heartedly suggest you download is the k-lite mega codec pack its pretty big but it contains loooooooooooooooads of usefull video and audio codecs, including real alternative, meaning you can play .ram files in windows media play, it also has quicktime alternative, very handy.

That's what screwed up real player for me.

Anyway, the problem is solved by converting all the real player files.

It appears that real player is the most buggy media player in history.

its also my most least favourite media format and player in history... i hope the people who designed it can live with that!
