I currently have 512mb of PC2700 RAM in my computer
My motherboard supports up to PC3200.
I want to get up to 1 GB within the next couple weeks, so what's the best way of going about this?
Would buying 512mb of PC3200 be a waste of extra cash, seeing as my current stick of memory is PC2700?
Am I just going to have to settle with another stick of PC2700 or is it at all worth it to buy a stick of PC3200 considering my current system?

Also, if it came down to it, would it be worth selling my current stick of RAM and buying two new sticks of 512mb PC3200 RAM to replace it? Is there THAT much of a performance increase from PC2700 to PC3200 to really go through the trouble?

Current system specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Soyo CK8 Dragon Plus mobo
512mb PC2700 RAM
Radeon 9800 pro 128mb

you can buy a stick of pc3200, but it will be clocked down automatical to 333mhz (pc2700 standards)

I'm not sure sure how much money you have, and if you want to overclock.... those are thing to consider :p

Well I know I CAN buy it, I'm just wondering is it worth it. Money's not a real problem, but I don't want to just blow another 150-200 upgrading everything to PC3200 if it's not a whole lot of a performance increase compared to just buying another PC2700 and settling with that. Basically is it worth the money to have 1 GB of PC3200 or will I be fine with 1 GB of PC2700. If there's a noticible difference I have no problem spending the extra cash, but if it's not I'd rather put the money into something else.

I don't really plan on overclocking anything at the moment either.

if your cpu is 333mhz based fsb or as its A64 it will be some silly magic frontside bus thing :) if it is then 2700 will be fine... if its 400 then id say teh 3200 will be better...

but i recently got another 512 stick of ram for my pc and its halved my load times on quite a few things (Ut2004 and so on)

Andy

i would yes, the jump from 2700 to 3200 is a big deal all the way around, dump your old memory if you can sell it used, then get 1 gb of 3200 or better, what ever you can afford till it hurts, the faster the better, this way you wont have to upgrade this peice for a while, your amd64 will thank you, and you WILL need more than 512 for HL2 and D3, count on it.

ok, new question:

does anyone wanna buy a stick of Ultra 512mb PC2700 RAM? :)

hey i just checked memory prices over on pricewatch, wow they are still coming down
you can get 512MB PC3500 2.5 Micron no less!! for 95-100 each, thats WAY cool!
FYI ..

LOL, bitches get stitches

just remember to think 1 upgrade ahead at all times, this mobo may only support 3200 but what about the NEXT one? think PC4000 ...

yes, but when it comes down to the time I need to buy a new mobo i'll be able to buy the same kind of ram MUCH cheaper. no sense in buying ram that isn't going to be utilized until i upgrade to something where i'm just gonna want to buy new ram anyways.
