Filling up my time before I get my hands on my brother's copy of Doom 3 by playing good old Splinter Cell. Knowing that Doom 3 is going to revolutionize lighting in videogames, here is a pick of what not to do :)

Doing anything to divert my mind from Doom 3. Damn I'm not even a fan, I'll be going on a killing spree when HL2 is 2 days away.

hmm. sc is full of bugs tho, and half life 2 will undoubtedly be aswell. a good patch will sort it out tho...but with the time theyve spent on it, there shouldnt be any sort of bugs at all :E

Yeah, SC achieved a lot of its lighting through "cheats."
Looked just as good , but often wasnt the real thing.

Real-time shadowing, dynamic shadows, volumetric shadows which change with the light source - those are the things which D3 brings to the table. Real-time lighting is in almost every recent game.

lans is right there.

Jedi Knight 2 and Jedi Academy actually has a Volumetric Shadows setting built in, makes the shadowing fantastic but Jedi Academy requires a monster PC to run without problems with all the other lightning goodness like the Dynamic Glow. And it's a little buggy sometimes.
