Well, I was posting in the Atari forum because I was getting really bad FPS in the UT2K4 demo. I'm only getting 15-30 FPS when theres a lot of action going on and 30-45 when nothings going on. I also noticed people with less powerful systems then mine were saying that they barely ever went under 60 FPS so I asked what was wrong and one guy said it was my RAM. My specs are:
ATI Radeon 9800
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
768MB PC2100 DDR RAM
Sound Blaster Extigy
He said that because the 3000 should be used in conjunction with PC2700 and it was going slower then it supposed to. So anyway, I wanted to ask you guys if you think he's right and that my RAM is whats hanging my system so much. Thanks.

Your RAM would certainly seem to be too slow for your CPU.

You may want to test by clocking your CPU down to 133MHz FSB, and then testing U2k4 again. Probably the best way to determine if it is your RAM, if you're still getting unnaturally low FPS, I'd check for other reasons (spyware, viruses, something eating all your RAM up)

Well I have Ad Aware 6.0 and Spybot and I use it every day so I dont have any spyware. I just checked my system yesterday too for viruses and didn't find any. I'm using the latest drivers and I don't have any programs running in the background when I play.

Like I said, try underclocking your CPU, set the FSB to 133MHz (which'll be equal with your RAM), then try UT2k4 underclocked. You should get higher FPS than 15-30 regardless if you underclock with that system

Example: You dont want to mix sizes of Ram !!!

64
128
256
512
Dont put 64 and 128 and then a 256 on the same machine i was told this along time ago i had a Ram problem and my PC was blanking out on me ( got a black screen of death ).

Apperently you have 12 sticks of 64 Ram all the same size = 768 Total
If not then this could be your problem..

This may also cause your problem you have a high amount of Ram but alot of Ram sticks to get the job done.

Some ppl have 512 Ram in only 1 or 2 sticks, hope you dont mind me calling them sticks, maybe bars would be a better term.

But when the PC needs to find stuff in the memory it has to search all 12 of your Ram sticks instead of only one ( like looking through a bunch of files ) .

This can also cause the slowness by making your PC work harder to find stuff it has to cycle each Ram stick.

I hope this made some sense if your still unsure you can always try calling a computer store and consult with them on the specific brand you have ect.

Good luck

That doesn't really slow down your computer that he would be getting 30 fps in ut2k4 demo, and you can't have 12 sticks of memory in a computer.

I had 64 on here and added a 128 and it went fine.

Really tho, ram is cheap as hell, do yourself a favour and buy a 512 atleast, 256 if you're not running games (pheh :P).

I get ~55FPS on full settings in Onslaught. In TDM, I get around ~70FPS.

bad^hat, u say ram is cheap but then about 1 gig of good ram costs like 250 quid or something like that so it is pretty expensive if u dont have the money

Well, I tried under underclocking it but its still the same. I wish I knew what the problem was. I get like 60-90FPS in Max Payne 2. Could it be the video card somehow? A side question though, if I have 2 sticks of RAM 1 PC2100 and one PC3200 they will both only run at 2100 right?

Try to reinstall the game if you are getting good FPS on other stuff then it must just be the game was not installed correctly.

Like you just mentioned Max Payne works fine but UT2k4 doesnt maybe its the game and they way it got installed and not your system.
