You can really see the difference between the hard and soft shadows in those screen shots. Just think about when we'll have photon light maps though ::drools::

Doom 3 has got hard-shadows hasn't it? Har har id pwned by a free demo ;)

Great find. That is fun to mess with, especially those pallets.

It just gets to "Creating v-buffer render target" and fails... oh well.

is it running extremely slow for anyone else? cause i think if i can run Halo that i can run this

Ran the ATI version and on my 9800pro my highest FPS that I noticed was about 90 while my lowest was around 25FPS. Those wood pallets have a lot of shadows.

Aww, the site is down now. Anyone happen to know of a mirror?

Nevermind. My internet was acting up. Just ignore me.

/me hates inverted mouse

Any way to change it? Other than that, awesome find, really cool

Hm, on my 9700 Pro its completely fuxed. Runs at around 3 fps and doesnt even have soft shadows! :O

you need the latest ATi drivers like I said, it runs in software mode on any of the other drivers.

Asus: I get frames between 120 and 35 depending on the map, which doesn't make any sense because your computer is slightly better than mine.

For anyone interested in this kind of stuff visit OpenGL.com once in a while. They always have some news about new demo's and whatever, I just wish i could find a site that does the same for DX.

EDIT: OpenGL.org

Well it runs in windowmode and I have dual display with a 2d desktop of 2560x2048.
Not sure what I had running on the other monitor but animated gifs, flash or ads do affect fps a bit.
I also have Vsyc on and 85 refresh rate for my desktop...which is why it hits 85fps.

Well that makes sense I guess... everyone has to run it in window mode though unless you feel like editing the source code. I sent them a message telling them to allow the resolution to be changed normally in the next version.

I ran it again, turned off Vsync, AA/AF along with closing IE windows. I was getting 225fps max on the map with the blue light and a few others.

Not really, its just about not using some features that are CPU and/or GPU heavy.
Plus if you look at the recent gameplay video's of doom3, you will clearly see softshadows. so I guess they found that they had some FPS to spill on pretty graphics without going lower then the maximal 60fps. so doom3 has softshadows to.
