I haven't played one since Diablo II came out (6-5 years ago?) Since I'm getting tired of FPS, I think my holiday game will be an RPG (not MMO though). I was thinking of Fable: Lost Chapters. Any other recommendations? ANd no, not KOTOR, I'm not a starwars fan so I didn't really enjoy it.

EDIT: Oh, and does Fable have all these "WOAH BEWARE TEH MAGICAL SWORD AND THE SECOND THIRD AGE AND THE LEGOLOTH ZARGOMOTH BELAGIL". I can bear some role playing bullshit like that, but not too much, it just ruins the experience sometimes because it's so unoriginal and unrealistic.

AND I ONLY HAVE A PC.

Fable is awesome
FFX is awesome
I heard Kingdom Hearts is incredible, although i never tried this one yet. I think there is a Kingdom Hearts 2 also
I quite liked Suikoden III - that was a great game too

EDIT: no fable is mostly like non-stop cutting monsters to pieces. You don't even need to talk to anyone really, the only talking is when a main event happens or before bosses, and its all voice-overs so you don't have to read

FOR PC: Arx Fatalis. an old game but that means you can run like 1600x1200 resolution. still looks great, plays great. awesome game

If you're looking for a PC rpg, I don't know of many.

Fable is fun, but it's short.
FFX is pretty good. I liked FF7 and FF6 a lot better though.
Kingdom Hearts is a lot of fun but it's based around a lot of disney characters so if you don't mind that then go for it. Kingdom Hearts 2 doesn't come out for a while.
I haven't played Suikoden but I have a friend that put in over 100 hours in a couple weeks into Suikoden III for PS2.

Okay, about fable, if I want to be a vilain, do I have to be a straight out asshole like in Black & White 2? Or can I be a "noble villain" sortof thing. As retarded as it sounds, I have trouble being an asshole in singleplayer games.

Average Press Score:
based on 13 reviews 7.4 (i would have rated it higher than the average)
( i wasn't even aware that it was released for xbox)

the other bonus is that Arx fatalis can be picked up for like $10

FABLE
No, I just did whatever I wanted, i never did anything in order to gain a certain alignment. For example, i helped some loser who was getting bullied, i saved people, but i also stole everyones shit.

In the end i had a halo floating around my head so you can say that my own actions aligned me with good. So i had trouble being evil also

(never played lost chapters)

Forget Fable and its overhyped hack and slash crap, its not really even an RPG.
If'll last you a couple of days and then you'll be sick of the sight of it.

Try Morrowind - now this WILL last you all Holidays and beyond

QFT, morrowind was ****ing awesome. if i had the money for an xbox 360 id buy it just for oblivion

Deus Ex (the first one). Kinda borders on what is considered an RPG, as its a FPS also. But I highly recommend it. Intense story...:borg:

Yes Deus Ex is an amazing game.

They don't release many good RPGs for the PC anymore (KOTOR I and II are just about the last good ones to come out.)

I suggest going with the olders.

Fallout
Fallout 2
Planescape: Torment
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate 2

Fable isn't even really a RPG. Or very good at that.

Fallout
Fallout 2
Planescape: Torment
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate 2

I second this list wholeheartedly. The above games are probably the best RPGs ever. If you prefer something more recent I'd like to recommend Vampire Bloodlines, which runs on the Source engine (though isn't as pretty) and as an RPG is really good. It's not without it's problems though. Still, it's pretty underrated in my opinion.

I say no to Fable. It's just a really bad port and the camera shakes all over the place when you move. The world feels really small too.

Try out FF8. Really great RPG. When it first came out it just blew everything away. I prefer FF7 for nostalgic reasons though. You could buy it cheap as a PS1 game then use a PS1 emulator, or get the PC version which is probably really bad.

KOTOR 1 is pretty good.

Front Mission 3 is a nice mech turn-based RPG like Final Fantasy Tactics or Advance Wars, but better. Again, you could play this on a emulator.

Morrowind is good, but fighting feels a bit crap, among other things.

I would say

Deus Ex
Morrowind
Fable
Fallout(s)

I never played arx fatalis, and really wanted to, but I can never find it at the shops anywhere.

Fallout
Fallout 2
Planescape: Torment
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate 2

This man speaks truly. I will give you five gold pieces if you bring me the Amulet of Jiiandra. Please let go of my beard.

But it does have boob physics. Do not ask me how I discovered this.
The list DeuxExMachinia posted is great too, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 are sublime, and you can now buy them and their expansion sets in a handy 60$ package \0/

After that, play Icewind Dale, and after that, play Neverwinter Nights. You might find these in all-in-one packages too.

You should also play Divine Divinity and its sequel, Beyond Divinity. Very cheap RPG, but very high quality and man is it HUGE! I've played like 2 months on that game.
And it's Belgian :p

Actually, yeah. Golden Sun too.

Not technically RPGs, but Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Broken Sword and Discworld Noir!

QFT. The newest ones (Golden, Silver, all that stuff) are actually quite good. Very large and a lot to do. I used to have this cool gameboy-emulator, but I lost it D:

icewind dale.
baldurs gate.
baldurs gate 2 (and expansion).
neverwinter nights (and expansion).
sacred (and expansion, or gold edition).
diablo 1 & 2 (and expansions).
fallout 1 & 2.
kotor 1 & 2.
morrow (and expansions).
fable: lost chapters.

some of these have problem already been listed, but i love them all, except fable.

what exactly is Planescape: Torment? I've never heard of it before, but it intrigues me, and I don't feel like google right now.

Morrowind for xbox and PC was unbeliveable but some things bug me about that game, and the graphics are kind of dated and the fighting pretty sad. I tried to play this game the other day and was just like WTF this sucks. The best part is simply walking around the huge world.

Fable1 for Xbox has direct paths to take, which isn't nearly as cool as exploring a huge world, but the fighting is better than most action games, and you gain XP to learn more attacks and stuff. I could sit there cutting fools apart for hours. I found this game to be alot of fun, although it should have been longer, its not unforgivably short.

never played lost chapters or PC ver. fable

Guild Wars plays more like a traditional RPG than an MMO

Kinda similar to Diablo II

Preferably games that aren't prehistoric. I know the "Graphics make game" seems like a really hypocritical statement coming from me considering my earlier thread, but once you're used to Half-Life 2, it's hard to go back to the age of Baldur's gate.

Wow, back when Morrowind just came out... they said it had gorgeous visuals, now people say they're dated... Meh.

Anyways, A more recent RPG I've been having fun with is X-Men Legends 1 + 2.
There's a demo for the 2nd one out.

Do the math...

Anyways, I'm gonna get Fable, it seems like one of the only ones that are recent and look good. Plus, the only complaints I've heard about are RPG related complaints, and since I never play them I wouldn't know.

It has this really cool story. You wake up in a mortuary and next to you is this floating skull. He tells you you've got loads of shit tattoed on your back. You did that yourself so you don't forget what you all discovered. You remember nothing, except of the stuff on your back. You then go on a quest to discover who you are. Every time your die, you resurrect in the mortuary. I think it was something like you lost your spirit, and that's why you never permanently die. Also heard it had some wicked environments.

Question: Where can i get Discworld Noir? I heard it was only out in Europe, never got ported to Oz... etc. I heard it was pretty good.

i can't think of any rpg game on pc which i would consider having 'good visuals', so either wait for the witcher, oblivion and others, or play neverwinter, kotor and fable which have ok graphics.

Well get it for the Xbox then, because it's a crappy port. The camera jiggles all over the place, you'll know the moment you start moving.

I didn't even bother finishing it.

ebay seems to be the only place i can find selling it. And yeah it was quite fun, even if it lacked the greatness of luggage from the first two games

Thats a shame. Oh well, don't say we didn't warn you...

not a rpg, but lasts like one. FREELANCER best flying silmulater game EVER

Dude, Morrowind to the max man. Get the Game of the Year edition; comes with both expansions. First-Person RPG.

Best RPG ever made. Ever, ever, ever. And Oblivion is going to take its place when it comes out.

And if you like Diablo-II style, get Dungeon Siege II, awesome game also.

And getting Fable? Ewww, I feel sad for you. Morrowind would be so much better... way more than 175 hours worth of gameplay. You'd be addicted like I was when I got it...

Right now I'm playing Baldur's Gate 2. I'm right in the beginning and I already regret not getting it the day it came out. The graphics may be old (like Diablo 2) but it truelly does provide some kickass roleplaying... if that's what you're into.

And, yeah Morrowind was a GREAT game, but definately not the best ever. I mean have you ever played Zelda: Ocarina of Time?

Yes and Morrowind is still the best. Mostly because I didn't like Ocarina a whole lot. Windwaker was an amazing game and definitely one of the best.

Then again, Zelda isn't really an "RPG" per se... more of an adventure-action game.
