Anything in the same vein as Explosions in the Sky/Mogwai.

I need to wipe my iPod and add new stuff, cause you know when you start skipping every song on it... that you need new stuff to listen to.

Current bands I have on it are...
Nirvana(Sick of.)
Fear Factory((Can't stop listening to.)
Johnny Cash(Sick of.)
Explosions in the Sky(Can't stop listening to them.)
Mogwai(just added a few songs from Mr Beast)
Tool(Can't stop listening to them.)
Falkenbach(Getting a tiny bit stale.)
Metallica(Sick to death of them, yet they'll remain.)
Porcupine Tree(Can't stop listening.)
Immortal Technique(Can be really depressing to listen to, burning to a CD instead.)
Pink Floyd(Never was a fan...)

Laura

The Album Leaf

Oh, and for a nice little twist try some Buck65

Pearl Jam - Ten

Nirvana's rivals in the early 90's. Not a bad song on the album.

Check out Nine Inch Nails.
Simply incredible music - extremely unique.
Have a listen through the following albums:

Downward Spiral
Broken
The Fragile
With Teeth
Pretty Hate Machine

or to simplify it

Just listen to the live album And All That Could Have Been, or better yet watch the DVD for it.

NIN is one of those bands where you dont have tracks that sound exactly like another one from the same album. I can clearly identify almost all of their songs (barring remixes) and not mix up the names. Thats over 160 regular songs that are easily identifiable (sp?).

Oh and more importantly, when listening to them, you must listen to the album from start to finish, because all hte songs are connected to eachother, you'll hear what i mean (and see if you look at hte lyrics of the albums songs in order).

Another suggestion to you is to check out Opeth. The best description i could give you is that theyre like a cross-breed between Dream Theater and old school In Flames.

Speaking of which, add those 2 bands to the list too.

Try out Chimaira, theyre like a mix between Fear Factory and Slayer.

Oh and check out Iron Maiden too, amazing live band. If you ever listen to them, listen to them live, check out songs like Hallowed Be Thy Name and Fear Of The Dark.

And lastly, my final suggestion to you is Bon Jovi!! Living on a prayer ftw!

Aye Nine Inch Nails are amazing. Its a mixture of Fear Factory meets Massive Attack haha. Some really bass driven stuff.

Personal favs -
You Know What You Are (great for first person shooters, really energetic and fast paced)
Perfect Drug
The Hand That Feeds

In Flames, Children of Bodom, Lamb of God and the almighty Slayer

=)

Well, as you like post-rock stuff as Mogwai and the like, and you like some metal in the vein of Tool (some, anyway) and FF, you should try out post-metal. The same concepts of what post-rock mainly revolves around, such as minamalism, repetition, overlapping, etc, but with a more metal tinge to it.

First off, I suggest Red Sparowes. If you like EITS, you will definatly like these. Alot of slow, stretched out music but Red Sparowes make the music seem apocalyptic with distortion and the like. Very landscape stuff, definatly a must. Try the At the Soundless Dawn album. Instrumental, FYI.

For a more heavier sound, check out ISIS. Again, alot of repetation and minamalism, but some really beautiful guitar work put through with gentle strumming and soft guitar solos (alot of bends and stuff put through delay pedals - sounds lovely) If you do like metal, try the Oceanic or Panopticon albums, but if you want a real post-rock feel with much softer vocals try the new album, In The Absence of Truth which is really beautiful stuff. Seriously, it's amazing.

I always thought alot of Mogwai had a real downbeat feel to it, but I really liked it, which is why I love Jesu. Their self-titled is stupidly downbeat and dark. When I listen to it, all I see in my head is fog and rusty, darkened buildings. You know like outta Silent Hill, that kinda shit? Yeah. But anyway, their EP, Silver is much livlier, combinding sweeping, symphonic guitar strummings to some really pounding drum beats. Justin has such a great voice aswell, it really blends in with the style of music. Check it out.

... I'll be back.

TV On the Radio- Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes
TV On the Radio- Return to Cookie Mountain
Alice in Chains- Jar of Flies
Soundgarden- Super Unknown
Pearl Jam- Ten
In Flames- Clayman.
Dream Theater- Scenes from a Memory
Dream Theater- Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

Those are just off the top of my head.

Um, some good reccomendations here.

Maybe you will like my band. Only old demos on our MySpace though, but some people like them. Soo..

Check my sig, they're all downloadable :)

Post-rock recommendations:
Do Make Say Think
A Silver Mt. Zion
Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Hunky Dory by David Bowie

Hells ya, Best pop album ever!!!

You could also try The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from Mars, Low( his best album) and Scary Monsters....amoung others.

Daydream Nation-Sonic Youth. F*cking Orgasmic album
Sister-Sonic Youth- Almost as F*cking Orgasmic DDN
Ok Computer/the bends-Radiohead- tis da shit

Great suggestions guys. :D

I don't really like NIN... too technoey for my liking.

I used to have Chimaira, Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam, and Opeth on my iPod too.
I have one or two songs by them all still in it... just not in any playlists.

I added some old Korn to it(Freak on a Leash and Falling Away from Me).

Red Sparrowes sound really awesome, and ISIS wins points just for being from Boston. :D

Wheels of Fire by Cream
Disreali Gears by Cream

I should really mention that ISIS can be an extremley heavy band, esp. in their older stuff. They do alot of mixing around, like you'll get this ear-destroying, down-tuned riff but in about 20 seconds it'll suddenly change to this beautiful, slow tinkering consumed by lots of delay and the like. They can take a while to get into, so I do suggest you go for the albums Oceanic and In The Absence of Truth first, then get stuff like Celestial, Panopticon and SGNL>05

They will blow your mind. They did to me, anyway. :rolling:

Will do. :)

Here's some singles instead of albums:

Type O Negative - Black No 1, Christian Woman, Summer Breeze, Bloody Kisses. Gothy/Heavy Metal.

Rancid songs - Maxwell Murders, Roots Radicals, Ruby Soho, Time Bomb.

David Bowie - Changes, Ziggy Stardust, Life on Mars, Starman, Space Oddity etc.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son, Have You Ever Seen Rain, Lookin' Out My Backdoor.

Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride, Jupiter's Child, Born to be Wild.

Prodigy - Breathe, Firestarter. Techo'ish, but still pretty hard.

Smashing Pumpkins - Today, Bullet With Butterfly Wings.

The Beatles.

Are overrated. :p

Irt, Stardog...

I never really liked Type O Negative, the guy's voice is just too deep-echoey-ish for me.
And from what I've heard, they're terrible live.
I like Black No. 1 and Angel though.

Sonata Arctica could be a good band to try out. I can't stop listening to them..best Metal I've heard in a while.

What did you think of Red Sparowes/ISIS/Jesu, Lucid?

I'll give you some albums I listen to, no guarantee though...

The Fake Sound of Progress by Lostprophets (Their only album worth any real mention in my opinion... Start Something has some decent songs though.)

A Black Parade by My Chemical Romance (No, they are not emo, they are goth. I didn't like their other albums, but I thought this one was great)

The Offspring (I love these guys... they are a band btw, not an album)

Our Lady Peace (Some lighter stuff, I know lots of people who love this band)

Albatross by The Classic Crime (Though I have about only 4 songs I like on this album, it still blends lots of elements of rock nicely in my opinion)

OK Computer by Radiohead (A 'depressing' album I suppose, but it blew my mind)

Louder Now by Taking Back Sunday (Nothing really to say here, just another good album in my opinion)

Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park (I know I'll get flamed for this, but In The End is worth it alone)

Foo Fighters (Great band)

Bon Jovi (Recommending, because there was a year my friend couldn't stop talking about these guys. I've only listened to one of their songs, but it was awesome)

The Fake Sound of Progress was a great album. Too bad that can't be said about the rest, although yes, Start Something had a few good tracks. The new one has some catchy ones, but you look at them compared to TFSOP and it's just... nothing.

Skylab's "#2 1999: Large As Life and Twice As Natural"

If you can find it that is...

check out this band http://www.myspace.com/abbathi

they just came out with a new cd called "Between Two Worlds"

listening to it right now, its really good.

also, the band consists of members of IMMORTAL, GORGOROTH, SAHG and ENSLAVED

First off... Sigur Ros. Just in case you haven't heard them yet. http://www.myspace.com/sigurros

More post-rock... new/more obscure stuff, but all very good. If you like Explosions and Red Sparowes you'll most likely like these too.

Sparrows Swarm and Sing... from Massachusetts (although I always get the feeling they should be from the South.) They're a lot like Godspeed You but a little more lyrical... or at least, more condensed. The O Shenandoah album is really good. Good enough that I was playing it in my room and someone asked me for the music. http://www.myspace.com/swarmandsing

Lis Er Stille. Danish group. Plays some crazy awesome tunes. Listen to the whole album here. Every single song on there is awesome. http://liserstille.mymusic.dk/diskografi/album.asp?id=545

Ascent of Everest. Also similar to GY!BE. http://www.myspace.com/theascentofeverest

Ef. Swedish band. Just listen to Hello Scotland.. all the way through. It's a very nice song. http://www.myspace.com/ef

This Will Destroy You. EITS-ish band from Texas. http://myspace.com/thiswilldestroyyou

That should keep you occupied for a while.

Sparrows Swarm and Sing sound cool. As much as I like Red Sparowes, I do sometimes wish there were some vocals. But then again, I also think it wouldn't work, and I'm glad there isn't. Depends really, how it could be done like.

Will check these out when I get home from school later, Thanks. :D

Definitely some Led Zepp :P And check out some queens of the stone age (SFTD and earlier)

A PERFECT CIRCLE

Similar to Tool, you'll find deep meaningful lyrics and music you usually don't find in most bands.

Theres plenty of talent in the band, too bad they're not still together :(

Maynard is an amazing singer

Maynard is one of the most overrated singers and I'd say Tool is one of the most overrated bands of all time. Very good but extremely overrated.

You sir fail.
He is a great singer. I heard him do a cover of Zepplin. He almost sounds better than the original.

Beautiful voice, live and recorded.
