Despite the obvious, like TA , Red alert and such, what else is out there? I've been bored lately, and I've been looking around for some old RTS'es but no too no avail, I haven't been able too find any, so hl2.net, I turn too you! :afro:

Mother****, go get Age of Empires 1, that game is the shit.

haha! I recently installed both of them, aoe1 and aoe2 + the expansions! but I need more! :D

I was thinking about civ. but, which one is the best? I've played number 4 and the expansions, I didn't like them much. and for RON plus Legends, I've played them too the death :P

Total war games are always a winner :)

Company of heros!

Rise of Nations, best classic RTS I have played, save Red Alert.

Company of Heroes + Opposing Fronts
Homeworld 2(best space RTS ever.)
Age of Mythology
Company of Heroes + Opposing Fronts
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War + All of the Expansions
Rome : Total War
Starcraft
Warcraft
Warcraft II
Warcraft III
Star Wars Empire at War + Forces of Corruption

Definitely how could I have forgotten about that game. It's so cool, you can build universities and libraries. So cool.

Define 'good'? Do you want a micro-fest? Macro-level resource management? Both? Do you want a single-player or multi-player focus? Do you care about game balance or do not mind having a unit that literally obliterates everything? Graphics or gameplay?

It's a hybrid strategy game and RTS elements only come into play as the Marine commander, but if you haven't already played it I suggest Natural-Selection mod for the original Half-Life. All it requires is the HL SDK, it's an amazing retail-quality total conversion. I still play from time to time, too.

Aw hell, I can hardly contain my dribbling fanboyism. I love the hell out of Natural-Selection, I'm seriously going to take a day or two off of school/work the day NS2 comes out.

Heh, I do too, BHC. Too bad I get so bored/annoyed because everybody else are pros, while I'm just an average skilled player.

Natural Selection is pretty great. But whenever I go in the comm chair and try my best, I'm always booted. NS2 even looks better, so far

Company of Heroes
World in Conflict
Ground Control II

Rome: Total War
Rome: Total War
Rome: Total War
Rome: Total War

Wait wait wait wait, ground control 2? :O
Yep, much better than their recent World in Conflict which I thought was pants.

Warhammer: Dark Omen - Was surely the inspiration for the Total War series. No building.

Myth - Check 0:49-0:53 in this video. No game nowadays has as good death physics. I haven't played Myth II, but stay away from Myth III.

Those are fighting orientated RTS's because everyone's already mentioned all the others.

My girlfriends mum plays that all the time. Even though she has all the expansions and there are a hell of a lot more rts games on the market. It's the only game she plays :p

It's like...wow :O

Wee! Thanks guiz, hopefully, I can find some of these games at my local gaming store... or I'll...acquire them some OTHER way.

No god damned way, GC2 was horse shit.
They change from having squads of units to individual units thus killing the epicness that the game had before.

WiC went back to their GC game mechanics and improved upon it 10x.

Imo, of course.

Ground Control.

Its free (get it from file planet), its fun and the sound is awesome.

That and it has arty with 5 barrels. Which is just awesome.

Also, The Settlers 3

Dune 2000? The remake of the great game that started them all.

Spellforce & Spellforce 2, they're actually RPGs with RTS elements.
Like you can establish a base and build an army while questing.

Aye, bloody good gameplay. If only the voice acting wern't so bad, especially in the first one. 2 is much better in that respect.

Emperor: Battle for Dune was pretty good.

Natural Selection (if youre the commander [otherwise youre ****ed and playing another fps])

Soldiers: Heroes of World War II (2004)

Hard as fook and a micromanaging extravaganza, but such a great game. It was one of the first RTS games to really use physics and integrate them in the gameplay. Plus it has direct control. It's no fps or even a tps by a longshot, but it's a cool feature. If the difficulty of the demo doesn't drive you mad, you'll prolly love it.

You can buy Stronghold Crusader Extreme from Steam, made by Gamecock.

*awaits inevitable shitstorm*
