Record video from PS3 / Xbox360 / Wii

OK, I've been googling this, but I really can't find anything that is the best for quality and ease.

I've seen items that plug in using composite cables to your computer and what not, but that's why I say quality, since I'm using HDMI. I also saw something about a DVD recorder would work, but not 100% sure on that.

Does anybody have any personal thoughts on this that they would like to share? I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering this

i used to record to VHS by plugging my game system through the VHS recorder. You can do the same with a DVD recorder and I'm pretty sure you can get a cable to computer from your HDTV if it has the PC out on it. In that case you can then just download a free capture program and you are set

I have an adapter that goes from DVI -> HDMI....but then I'd be playing off my computer screen. I'd rather play it off the TV. If I have TWO DVI -> HDMI adapters for both slots on my video card, could I do....PS3 -> Computer -> TV and have it record off the computer while still outputting to TV?

*EDIT* I've found this DVD Recorder...seems like the easiest bet so far.

I'd say "yes" but I'm kind of ruling that one out, as the only way to record it would to either A.) bring out my computer to the TV or B.) plug in the PS3 to my computer by hauling it in there.

The more I'm looking, the more I'm realizing the best bet will be the DVD Recorder....freaking hundred bucks...

*EDIT* I'd also rather play the game on my TV, while the item records, for best quality playtime. DVD Recorder seems like the best choice, sasdly.

If you got a PC capture card it would all be via analog. And if you want a quality picture then your talking closer to $100 than 50.
That DVD recorder is probably the better option for ya.

OK, Thanks for the input guys. Was hoping to save a slight bit of money, but doesn't seem possible. I'll put this on my wishlist for something to get!

If you're going to record from an analog source to a digital one you'll have to consider the delay caused by encoding. What you see on the TV could be delayed by 1-2 seconds if you use the DVD Recorders output which'll cause problems if you're playing games through it. You'll have to split the A\V output from the console to go to the Recorder and TV separately or use another output on the console for one of them if it can output to multiple ones at once.

Could I use the default A/V cables to the DVD Recorder, then use the HDMI cable also from the PS3 to the TV? Would it work that way, sending the same signals through two different wires?

It would if the PS3 can do that, which I don't know if it can. Since the interfaces use different resolutions/specifications I'm guessing you won't be able to.
