Recording gameplay to DVD

I want to create a setup that will allow me to record to dvds as I play games. The way I plan to do it is grab a VGA and 3.5 jack splitter, and run a DVD recorder that can take VGA and 3.5 jack inputs.

So, my questions. Does anyone know of a dvd RW that takes such inputs, and what will I need to do to make the resolution work with the DVDs?

I do not want to run fraps, as I have to reduce my res and settings to get it to run smoothly.

First, I hope you are just backing up your DVDs and not copying rented or borrowed DVDs...

Second, it is a really bad idea to record DVDs passing it through analog and then recording digital again. The best way is to put the DVD in your DVD drive of your PC and pickup some DVD ripping software so it puts the chapters, subtitles and video/audio files to your hard drive. And go from there. DVD Shrink is good all-in-one program for that.You will lag while playing games and doing another demanding task such as this. Games will be unplayable.
You need a dual core CPU (Athlon 64 X2) to do both at once really. One core will handle the game and the other core will handle the DVD.

lol, sorry, must have explained it badly. I don't want to copy dvds, I want to make a new DVD, that records the game I am playing, like recording a demo or using fraps does.

I want to do it this way so that I end up with the maximum possible visual quality, as if I record with the PC as I play, I have to lower res and settings to maintain frame rate.

if it's a Source game, might be easier to record a demo, play it back and export on all high settings at 30fps or whatever, then just burn it to a dvd

Not really, that takes ages to export it and create movies from, plus it only works on source. You can't do that on BF2 for example.

I want a set up so that no matter what I am doing, I can record it, as I play, to a dvd and get exactly what I see on screen

I really think you best bet might be to get a dual core cpu and use Fraps to record your gameplay and then burn to DVD later.

I have not seen any DVD recorders with VGA input, only DVI output. The best way might be to mirror the display on your PC out with S-Video OR VGA out to a box that will convert it to S-Video. Then go into the recorder with S-Video.

You can just go to Best Buy and pick up a audio cable with the mini PC stereo plug on one end and the RCA Left/Right plugs on the other.
