friend just f'ed up his harddrive, somehow related to overclocking he thinks, but now his 200gig HD shows as unpartitioned space.

but i know the data is there. anyone know a good program to salvage the data? or any ideas? i have a few programs that salvage data from a drive, but it has to be a drive for that to happen, and right now its not. maybe i should make it an active NTFS partition first? but would that minimize the chances of getting data back? hmm

Hmm, I'd say it's a pro job. Don't touch it unless you know what you're doing and if you're posting here asking you probably don't.

Maybe dd could get the stuff off but i'm not sure what you would do with after that.

Time to dig out the yellow pages.

I agree with jonbob on this one, best not to mess with it unless you are TOTALLY sure that you won't wipe anything. I take it when you try and access teh disc, you get the message that says its unformatted and needs to formatted to be used.

samething happened to me, i did a quick format on it(so minimal infor is erased) and used runtimes "get data back" program. not to sure how much it would cost you, i got it free through work.

Yes, GetDataBack for NTFS is what I use, works very good! I can't garantee you'll get 100% of your stuff back but you'd be surprised to see what we can find with that proggy, even stuff you don't remember saving on the HD :)

damn, getdataback is the best program ever. got everything i needed, back, and more. $80 for full version, but its worth it considering what it can do

Exactly what I did. Except in my case the "quick format" was what got me into that mess when I did it by accident! :dork:
GetDataBack worked great. I pirated the program when I did it. It took alot of downloading older versions and finding serials on the internet until I found a match between the two.
