I can't remember if taking a red bull before an exam is good or bad. Some people say its good, some say it will get you hyperactive and make you loose concentration. Any help on that ? I have exams this week, verry important exams so I'd like to know if a bull would help in concentration or opening your mind a bit so you don't get brain dead in the middle of the exam.

Bad I think. I'm not sure, but I doubt caffeine enhances performance on tests.

Yup I was right, sort of. Depends on what the test is covering.

That would mean that late night crammers armed with caffeine would tend to remember things more clearly because the caffeine is undoubtedly provoking their emotions. Studies have shown that caffeine improves the ability to do things that require “speed” but has little or no effect on things requiring “power” (Braun, 1996). When talking about things requiring “speed,” it is meant that tasks such as simple arithmetic, visual-choice reaction time, and “data-driven” tasks are easier to do. Caffeine, then, would be ideal for a student preparing for a test that might require the use of these tasks. However, there is no solid evidence whether caffeine is or is not helpful in performing intellectual tasks. It has been shown that caffeine may worsen performance for more complicated tasks such as long word problems that are quite complex (Schardt & Schmidt, 1996). This may be more along the lines of what is being studied by college students.

edit:

Generally I don't drink anything with caffeine before tests because I don't want any drug in me that might **** with my head.

Well, I read in ther site that it does actually help, you *should* take drink it 30 minutes earlyer. I shall try it tomorow.

You should take Red Bull before you do anything. Before you eve breathe in the morning. Works for me.

It's best to write an exam in the same conditions that you studied for it. What I mean by the "same conditions" are things like the clothes you wear, the temperature of the room, the sounds you hear, and yes even the state you were in when it comes to things like how much caffeine you had in your body.

One common thing I know people do is they study while only listening to one song over and over again, then while writting the exam they just play that song in their head over and over again.

In otherwords if you studied while loaded with caffeine it may be a good idea to write the exam loaded with caffeine.

Perpetual Red Bull machine. Pumps a stedy stream of that Godly nectar directly into my veins :D

Energy drinks in generaly don't really do anything to me anymore. I used to wreak hell upon my body with them. Now I can chug six in a row and go to sleep.

What were the effect on you before Absinthe ?

I'd about ten, I'd get uber hyper, I'd feel sick, I'd curl up for about 15 minutes, and then I'd let loose a fart so powerful I'd rupture my intestines.

I do stuff to my body that really shouldn't be done.

Funny you should make this thread. I had an A-level exam today in chemistry, and my mate turned up late and put two cans of redbull on his desk (and as you know your only allowed water in a see through bottle). I assumed he thought he was gonna boost himself, until some old hag took them away. His face was one of disgust. Would seem like it would work...its just high caffeine content.

Well you'd probably get very twitchy and shuffle about in the exam. Well unless you were used to it. Hell I get a headache and feel sick after 2 coffees and I've only done that once.
Going to take a small caffeine pill ( = 1 cup of coffee apparently) from my mate for my maths exam though.
Question: How long before the exam should I take it so I don't get a drop towards the end?

Bah, drink Irish Coffee beforehand instead. It combines two of the best things nature's given us - alcohol and caffene.

Red Bull is the best, drink it before anything that gets your adrenal rushing. As for an exam, no. Don't drink it before an exam, cause it's an exam. Why do you need a Red Bull? Get a Powerade or something...

Don't take caffeine before a maths exam.
You need to think slowly for hard maths stuff and caffene wount let you.

Im like 50/50 here, to do, or not to do! Does it make it worse or help? Should i, or should i not?

Don't. I was wired throughout my A level exams, and I'm pretty sure it didn't help.. if you panic even slightly, you're ****ed.

You're strange. No, really.

:)

I drink energy drinks at work from time to time, and I've found that when I do, I get a LOT of work done quickly - I'm a programmer, so it helps me think more quickly and clearly. So I'd say yeah!

10 gallons of red bull syrup a day keeps the doctor away. yes it helps, unless you have ADD.

Ok guys, i bought a 10 pack of Red Bull and some Powergade or whatever its called! CHEERS!
