Red Orchestra.. Holy Sh!t

- Vastly improved prone hit detection. No longer are prone players
represented by a small cylinder the size of their torso. The new
collision system can now detect bullet hits on both the head and
legs.'

- Added new code to detect specific hit points on vehicles.
Currently used to detection hits to the drivers, tank
commanders, and the engine areas. Very precise detection.
If a tanks armor is penetrated and the shell hits the
engine, the tank is destroyed.

- Overhauled the bullet effect system. Bullet hit effects have been
moved client side to allow much more robust and dependable effects.
Ballistics rounds are now simulated for clients to allow more robust
and dependable effects as well.

- Rewrote the majority of the bullet firing system to be more effective,
use less server CPU power, and to work more reliably. Short range
shots will use straight line traces, and shots that are beyond the
range where ballistics are needed will spawn the standard ballistic
bullet round. This can prevent hundreds of actors a second from
needing to be spawned in CQB battles which could bog down the server.

- New "passenger" system for transport vehicles. Passengers now
sit in the back of the transport. They not longer get killed just
from riding in the back.

- Added a Tread damage system. Treads may now be damaged if
hit by a tank shells, PTRD round, panzerfaust rounds, and
certain types of explosion. You must hit very low on the
side of the tank to damage the treads. If treads are
damaged, the tank will no longer move.

all most all maps overhauled as well and many new audio effects like locational bullet whiz sounds for those close calls etc.

static meshes are being overhauled, high detail vehicle interiors...

I suggest you whatch this video too

it's remarkable

The guys that made this mod rock, I heard a few of them got snapped up by Epic ages ago.

Bah! Did I not make a thread on this a while ago, I kept trying to revive it but it was pronounced dead by the looks of things! :P

But yes, it does look amazing, anyone from the US should be able to play today (your time) but it'll be pretty damn late in the UK come release so I'll wait till tommorow. Some of the stuff their doing looks amazing - like this is the only game where shell size, velocity, angle, armor thickness are all taken into account, so effectively trying to shoot a big old German tank with a shitty old Russian one means the shells just bounce off the front  - Just everything looks so good, I hate to admit it, but with HL2 my attitude now is just "release the damn thing already" opposed to how it was in September '03. And, I'm also more hyped up about this than HL2! :D (God knows why, buy meh)

I thought Red Orchestra had some great ideas that were executed well, but the overall gameplay just isn't there. Apparently there is something missing in the game to really grab the community's attention. One of the downfalls I felt plagued the game were the vehicles. They in themselves were excellent, but it took away from infantry combat. If you were one of the few not controlling a vehicle, the game become a bore. I didn't care for the maps either. I didn't feel that their layouts were carefully considered for all aspects of gameplay, especially once vehicles were introduced.

I congratulate the team on accomplishing what they have and hope they can add the right ingredients to further strengthen their game.

Madacian, I think you should give the new one a shot when it's out - apparently theres been alot of changes in both gameplay in terms of infantry and balancing in the new and old maps. But I'll guess we'll have to judge for ourselves - you should give it a shot anyway, seeing as it's free and all.

Oh definitely. I'll always try new versions of mods. Day of Defeat didn't get where it is today by not improving upon the game with each release. It's one of the advantages modding has over retail production. The community feels a closer connection to the game when they get to experience its growth first hand.

I will try this mod one day but unfortuantly there are so many games I have piled up I dont know how soon I will get around to playing this.

The mod sounds like its a full time job though. They are always releasing something new.

I hope the mod teams working with source are just as dedicated.
