reinstalling HL2

Question: I bought HL2 1.5 years ago and finished it and removed it from my HD. In the mean time my pc crashed and I had to install windows and other software all over again. Now I want to reinstall it also because I bought a new tft screen. Reinstalling it gives problems: I get errors saying this game was already installed, when i actually use my steam account details and the activation key on the disk. How can I solve this?

Install steam from www.steampowered.com
When it loads, enter the login details for the account you created when you first installed the game
Open steam
Go to the "My Games" tab
Right click on the greyed out "Half life 2" icon
Click install
Wait
Play

You MUST use the account you created when you FIRST installed HL2. No other account will work. NOTE: You will not need to enter your CD key at any point during this process. If you get something asking for a CD key, you are doing something wrong.

thx for your help, but it still doesnt work. I use the correct steam account information I think. Steam recognizes that i installed hl2 before (after entering cd key), but is doesn't list hl2 in "my games" so installing it from the list cannot be done. Reinstalling episode 1 works for no obvious reason from my games. I guess steam has a bug. What can I do? Is there a helpdesk i can call instead of endlessly checking forums???

No idea what happened there.

/EDIT Now that I think about it, doesn't it install HL2 first, then ask for the CD Key for verification/unlocking purposes?

Give us a screenie of your Steam Games page.

make sure you're actually in the same account you used to install hl2 the first time, not a new account.
Just re-iterating in case you missed it.
