I have just reinstalled Windows. How do I reinstall GS: Source? I won't have to download the whole thing one more time do I? That would be meaningless, since the files are already located on my D: partition from the last installation.

Copy the files to the SteamApps directory and you should be ready to go. That's what I did and works fine.

Thanks, but not sure exactly what you mean.

The Steamapps folder D:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps already contains four GCF-files.

I have not yet reinstalled Steam. I simply double-clicked the Steam.exe under D:\Valve\Steam just to see what happened. It seemed to work just fine, but when I selected Play Games and then double-clicked Counter-Strike: Source, I was told that there was a problem with the local game file, and that Steam would try to re-acquire them from the servers.

So how do I solve this?

I simply reinstalled steam and copypasted the back-upped GFC-files to the steamapps directory under the fresh steam install. Fired it up, Steam updated itself, then clicked play CSS under My Games an all worked just as before the format.
