Reinvention- Half-life 4?

In a brief moment of terrible boredom, I went to have a look at the (long-overdue for an update) http://www.half-life2.com website, i wondered whether H-L3 had been registered (it has). H-L 4 has as well (dunno if it's by valve tho).

Getting to the point (in a very roundabout way), what is gonna happen for the future? We know that H-L3 is in the pipeline, but how many times is Valve going to be able to reinvent the game? Too many times, sequels have gone down hill, and dissapointed fans. Though I can't see HL-2 doing that, what about all the future sequels?

Personally, I'd rather see a good ending in HL-3 than see the series decline. What do you think?
Where can the game go in the future?

I am sure that it's just valve covering it 'just in case'. If HalfLife 3 sells as well as Hl1 did and Hl2 is going , then why not make HalfLife 4? As long as there is a demand for it , keep pumping them out.. Technology advances quickly, and by the time Hl4 is out, if it is coming, you will see amazing graphics that make todays look like they did in the original Wolfenstein.

True. I suppose there is a lot to do with physics and graphics etc, especially as there are wave after wave of new hardwarez. but i do want eventually a good climax to the story with a definate end. it'd make me feel better. I'd hope that they'd at least take their time (not another 5 yrs tho plz) and would make sure the story doesn't try too hard to be deep and go balls-up (as seems to frquently happen in sequence)

We already know there is a Hl3 coming out.. only thing is, they don't know how it's going to end, so it might leak into Hl4.. I personally think they could go on and on with this game until Freeman is an oldman because I love FPS games, especially ones that aren't over the same day you start playing them.

again, true. i'm a massive fan of half-life (i'm replaying it *again* in anticipation of HL-2) but as a big fan i'd hate to see it pale into insignificance/crapness

Nice detective work omlette.. looks like someone else has cornered HL4 :)

Hope Valve doesn't pay him for the address, makes me sick people trying to make money by registering websites just for personal gain.

... just out of curiousity, why does my sig not appear?

Thanks.
He registered the domain for 10 years, so it looks like that's his plan.

Yeah, you can tell thats what the git's doing. Maybe they should call it something else..."Revenge of the G-man: Half-Life 4", so as to avoid buying it off him.

It really was some "cracking" detective work omlette. really EGG-cellent... AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahaaaa <dies>

Sorry man, it's been very hot here today.

It's been registered by a brit, i'll go find him and hunt him down with a crowbar

i think that if you copyright a phrase you own the right to the website. These people with no affiliation to harry potter copyrighted harrypotter.net or something like that and they were forced to give up the site to the harry potter publishers. You still have to pay the $75 or whatever for the domain name, but if you have a copyrighted name you pretty much have the right to the domain name.

Not really. Unless I'm mistaken, it's first come, first served with domain names.

Deepers is certainly right about the harry potter thing tho, they did have to hand it over
