I've got a headache, just took some Tylenol... planning on lying down for a bit.

List some bands to listen to that aren't heavy or anything.
Maybe just soothing melodic tunes, stuff like Explosions in the Sky... except even lighter than that.

Sufjan Stevens
Jeff Buckley
The Smiths
Ben Folds
Tilly And The Wall
Jeffrey Lewis

Not sure if any of that is to your taste though..

Sufjan Stevens is pretty good, very mellow.

I like them, and Tilly and the Wall.
Pretty good stuff.

Mogwai - anything
Autechre - Amber
Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol II.

Not neccissariliry music thats classed as calming or relaxing, but it's what I use.

Yea he(sufjan) is, i would recommend Michigan if you're looking for something mellow and Illinios if you're looking for his best work.

KidA by radiohead is a very mellow album
Joni Mitchel-Blue
Loveless-MBV it does have a lot of texture though.

I like them both, but I'm much more into Geogaddi. I haven't given Music Has... the time it deserves, compared to what I've put into Geogaddi.

I just think Music is a more relaxing album compared to Geogaddi. Geogaddi is, at times, pretty active and unsettling.

I've been using Geogaddi as a album to listen to whilst walking to school or in Art, and it's working pretty well for just for doing lazy, laid-back and improvised pictures aswell as just tuning out the rest of the class and getting down to work in a none-stressed manner. I'll take Music Has... in tomorrow and see what it does. I usually have a whole mix of BoC on me, though, like I'm pretty sure Sixtyten is on my MP3 player usually.

Boards of Canada doesn't sound too shabby either, albeit alittle technoey.
Jeff Buckley's really good too, sounds a bit like Jack Johnson.

DEAR LORD, IT'S LIKE THE FURTHEST THING FROM TECHNO

caps

How about the cranberries?

they're not all repetetive and synth-y.

Seriously, when people call stuff like Sigur Ros or Boards of Canada techno, I literally punch a wall in half.

But I don't really. I'd probably break TWO walls I'm so powerful.

Anyway, I usually listen to:

Do Make Say Think
Explosions in the Sky
Mogwai
Yo La Tengo
Cat Power
Sigur Ros
Galaxie 500
Camera Obscura
Joan of Arc

Amon Tobin and Sigur Ros are both great for relaxing.

Amon Tobin is a little mentally active to be relaxing, but I'd say Boards of Canada (primarily the In A Beautiful Place Out in the Country EP), Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Vol II, Radiohead's Kid A (the song Everything in its Right Place always calms me down when I'm pissed off or sad), and Sufjan Stevens.

I haven't heard much of Amon Tobin, but listening to "easy muffin" is..yeah..

I agree with Radiohead's Kid A album, and Amnesiniac moreso (if I'm laying down listening to either of those, I fall asleep).

Oh, and add Fiona Apple to my list <3.

The Kid A album is sexual. The title track is easily my favorite on it.

And I completely forgot about the In A Beautiful Place Out in the Country EP.

Quite, although I think the best to recommend would be In The Absence of Truth, which I do recall Lucid saying he wasn't too keen on.

Yeah, funny enough... I like their heavier stuff.
Truth is just too much of a mixed bag for me.

I've been listening to Midlake and Jose Gonzalez a lot and they're both very relaxing.

I'll list some ambient electronic music (and things in that realm) that you may not know about. As for BOC, I sometimes don't even consider BOC to be ambient, as they usually go about constructing their own atmospheres in their songs.

Stars of the Lid - Superb Drone
Shuttle358 - Glitch/Ambient
ISAN - A little more active, but also nice.
Fourcolor - Glitch/Ambient
Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto - Piano to go along with Noto's pretty glitches.
Global Communication - 76:14

Neither do I, really. I just find them a very relaxing band is all.

Right. They're nice, but I just am not an avid fan or anything. I own most of all their LPs and EPs too. It's just that there is so much beyond Warp that no one at these boards really mentions, so I thought I'd try to.

Being more talked about here then others on Warp records or whatever isn't really anything on the matter, nor is anyone actually calling them 'proper ambience' (whatever THAT is, anyway) really. Mentioned as a relaxing band, and thus the thread continues as normal. But it's cool that your suggesting new things anyway, I'll have a snoop around.

Lucid, what heavier Isis do you have? Have you got Celestial or SGNL>05? Not relaxing at all, mind, just asking. Back to relaxing though... hhave you heard any A Silver Mt. Zion? They have some great gentle, calming and soothing music. The newest album, Horses in the Sky (I think thats the most recent), has some real nice sounds to it. Aside from being a real emotional and somewhat downbeat band (or orchestra or whatever they want to be defined as), I find them very chilled.

I was merely saying that most people who hang around this part of the forum know of a select few of the Warp artists from them being mentioned frequently. So, I thought perhaps he tried them and that might not have been what he was looking for. I wasn't meaning for it to come off the way it did. I think I just mistakenly thought he wanted ambience, which surely isn't the only music you can unwind to. It's just that, ambience is my choice of music for that. Sorry.

Which is fair enough, I just thought the Warp comment was a little out of the blue. By no means harsh, offensive or whatever, because it really wasn't, I just wasn't sure where it came from. But like I said, I'll have a listen to the artists you listed as I'm getting more into ambient music lately.

Jefferson Airplane is pretty relaxing, as is a shitload of classical music, which I'm suprised no one has mentioned, it put babies to sleep for christs sake.

I was actually only referring to the two albums you recommended me.
Oceanic's the one I liked more, had some really nice tracks.
I should probably get around to checking out their other stuff.

A Silver Mt. Zion sounds intriguing... their site makes no sense to me though...
From what I've just heard of them though, sounds like a classical EitS.
