I wasn't aware there even was a retail release... oh right, EA are behind it. This only applies to retail, so as a pre-purchaser, I can't say I care

I guess they just haven't had enough time to get enough discs manufactured worldwide. Emergence did go Gold only recently... Shows that developers do no favours for retail publishers and consumers when they can get more cash through online distribution...

Most debit cards are valid on Steam (They except Visa friggin Electron!). Debit cards aren't evil like Credit cards.
