Remember Descent?

I was looking through my old games and found Descent I II and III. I was wondering, the company that made them went under right? Could the Source engine do a mod based on the Descent universe? Would you have to ask for rights?

I hope this is in the right section of the forums...

I used to love descent on the playstation...we used to link up and play multiplayer using one disc! (took some CD swaping e.t.c but it was good)

Never played the second one, came very close to buying it a few years ago.

Third one was cool, i used to love the weapons in descent, i reckon it would be a cool mod, as long as its done well (coding the ship e.t.c)

Sorry to go off topic but anyone remember the classic syndicate wars........that would make an AWESOME mod, cyborgs, amazing weapons, brilliant levels.......would work well as a multiplayer or cooperative game.

The company that made them might have gone under, but the publisher will still own them, and if they don't, lawyers will. Even then, as is the case with Loom, if nobody owns the rights, where nothing exists anymore that owns it, its falls into a kind of limbo, nobody can buy the rights, nobody can sell the rights, nobody can give permission to use the rights.

But you could very easily do something a little similar without using anything from those games.

... Though personally I would love a MP source game similarISH to Dungeon Keeper or Boulderdash with the whole digging thing hehe, now that would be so cool

Or theme hospital (can tell what games I just finally got working lol)

Well I dunno about theme hospital, but I made a big map with lots of func_breakable cubes ala dungeon keeper, and it ran just fine. So boulderdash clones would work hehe.

Someone needs to get permission from Bullfrog to do both, heh bloaty head in normal mapped glory

slightly off topic, is theme hospital a free download now like gta 1 and 2 or can you still buy it?
