Remove crosshair but not quick info?

Crosshair 0 used to do this, but since upgrading and updating HL2 it seems to get rid of the entire crosshair. Is there a way to get around it?

I'd like to play with no hud or crosshair with just the quick info brackets if possible.

cl_drawhud 0 should do the trick, if you want rid of everything use this and impulse 200, its slightly different for TF2 but I can't remember what that is...
