Hello all, currently upon my own HL2 adventure, but I was just wondering on a side note, (and I have read through many posts regarding DVD/CD install issues, which this does not concern), is there any way to play HL2/CSS without having the disc inserted. Correct me if I am wrong but the whole deal behind Steam was accessibility. Having to put the disc into whatever computer I want to play it on (meaning HL2 and CSS) is really quite bothersome and seems almost pointless, considering my Disc-Key is already registered to my Steam account. If anyone has any clue about this issue, or know of whether or not Valve decides to look into this, please let me know. Thanks.

No idea, this baffles me also.... lets hope they patch it in awhile. I assume its to stop people going into shops and taking the keys, registering it... putting in the cd/dvd will stop that working as the game wont verify or play.

Yeah, I thought the whole idea of this Steam stuff was precisely to remove the need to have the CD/DVD in the drive. I was pretty pissed when I discovered this.

I would even trade offline mode away to get CD/DVDlessness, although I'd like to keep offline mode AND get rid of DVD check. Actually, I'd like to get rid of Steam altogether but that's another topic...

ok this is ****ing bullshit, i still can't play as it still asks me to insert disc even though it is. i successfully made an image of it and then it tells me to go screw myself because i have emulation software.

i've emailed valve too (a couple of days ago) and its nice to know their technical support department/guy is on the case. owned for nearly a week (literally) and still can't play.

does anyone know ANY way around this insert disc thing?!

i'm willing to do anything for the person who helps me out, lol, no sick comments.

I wouldn't mess with no cd fixes/patches. Before you know it, your steam account will be banned.

Im so pissed at steam/valve I dont care. Now im waiting for crack that removes the need for Steam all together. I have a legit CD, but I dont want steam on my system!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The no cd crack worked great, its something that valve should have done in the first place, so once again it was up to someone else outside of valve to fix valves screw ups!

considering that some of these might be account stealers I would hestiate using anything not verified by steam...I have no desire to spend another 89.00 for the collectors edition again and btw that other link to it was banned...and no longer works...gameburnworld does..but I would wait around for others to try it out first before I throw my money away...

As it shows in the link, yes a couple of them were trojans or link stealers, but the website tested all of them and the ones that are still up work fine. I dont have to use my cd at all now.

I can validate that it works, it doesn't not replace any steam files, it simply tells steam you bought HL2 through steam and not retail, its quite ingenious, and undetectable. This will do fine until valve officially releases a patch that disables it.
