Hey guys I'm running Half Life 2 on a

AMD Athlon XP 2500+
GeForce 5200 FX
512 MB (Dual channeled 256 MB)

Everytime I shoot a flammable gas tank or during the CS:S video stress test, where the fire shoots up, all I get is purple pixels and my computer does not render the fire in the game.

This happens whenever fire is supposed to be rendered on the source engine.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

It's possible that your video card isn't good enough for the settings you have set. It you are running low settings, maybe the vid card just can't handle it. With your processor and RAM, I think you will get much better results with a newer card.
Also, you can overclock that CPU to 2800+ levels...

Wait? do you get the same things with the windows in combine walls and stuff (the ripley ones)

If so try turning AA off.

Try validating your cache files. It sounds like that would help. Also, I don't think any of the above suggestions would work, I mean, the fire is just a little 2-D animated moving sprite. There should be absolutly no reason why your graphics card or RAM would be causing a problem. Another thing to note: AA is not always the cause of the purple stuff everywhere, and when it does happen, all you have to do is quit the game and reopen it for the purple to go away.

Click here to validate Counter Strike Source

Validating only one should work, but just in case click on both links.

Thanks, Dumb Dude, validation fixed the problem. Thanks for your help.
