Rendering Problem

In the 1st image the flat side of the object is a lot darker than the edges. This is probably because I made the edge first by extrapolating half a cylinder a lot, but is there any way to fix it?

Also in screen 2 you can see on this flat surface there is a line where the shading changes. I would think this is the same type of problem with a similar solution?
 
in the second image you have a shader error, what you need to do is play around with the veticles on the model until this disapears (SP?)....

oh in extreme cases, delete the faces and rebuild them using the face create tool...
 
will that shader error thing appear in HL2? or is it just XSI rendering ?
 
It will appear in hl2 to. its a error you MUST fix.
 
you also get these problems when you cut models, it creates alot of aditional lines screwing the mesh up. If this is the case you have to redo the whole thing.
 
Try to stay away from poles. A pole is where 5 or more edges share the same vertex. Its not a must but it is a good habit to get into.
