Report: Cuba, Venezuela could host Russian bombers

MOSCOW ? A Russian Air Force chief said Saturday that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has offered an island as a temporary base for strategic Russian bombers, the Interfax news agency reported.

The chief of staff of Russia's long range aviation, Maj. Gen. Anatoly Zhikharev, also said Cuba could be used to base the aircraft, Interfax reported.

The Kremlin, however, said the situation was hypothetical.

Chill out Solaris, don't you recognise sabre rattling when you see it? No one is going to topple precious little Chavez's tin pot dictatorship in the forseeable

The Russians wont take up the offer, they've no need to. And to be honest, its not much to worry about. These bombers can hit the US anyway. The only thing that would actually cause any kind of possible military response from the US would be the stationing of Russian nuclear weapons in Venezuela. But that is extremely unlikley.
