this story has lol written all over it, with an underpining of authoritarism

A Republican senator pleaded guilty earlier this month to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge stemming from his arrest at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, according to state criminal records.
.. was apprehended June 11 by a plainclothes police officer investigating complaints of lewd behavior in an airport men's room.

According to Roll Call, the arresting officer alleged that Craig lingered outside a rest room stall where the officer was sitting, then entered the stall next door and blocked the door with his luggage.

According to the arrest report cited by Roll Call, Craig tapped his right foot, which the officer said he recognized "as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct."

The report alleges Craig then touched the officer's foot with his foot and the senator "proceeded to swipe his hand under the stall divider several times," according to Roll Call.

At that point, the officer said he put his police identification down by the floor so Craig could see it and informed the senator that he was under arrest, before any sexual contact took place.

Idaho's senior senator is married with three grown children and nine grandchildren.

the old senator-in-the-mens-stall-asking-to-be-groped-by-a-complete-stranger trick = obvious homersexual ...gotta love these closeted conservatives; they play up family values and at the same time have crack orgies (double entendre) with young boys or solicit sex at an airport ..it's terribly amusing ..but then there's the specter of big brother who feels it's necessary to police our bathrooms and dictate who we can or cant have freaky sex with

So we recently had a republican that had a fetish for diapers and prostitutes resign.

Jeff Ganon was allowed access to the white house and turned out to be a gay prostitute and a republican hack.

Mark Foley had a thing for young boys.

I think recently there was a republican mayor or governor that was caught giving blow jobs for money.

Giuliani is now on his 3rd wife not to mention his kinky crossdressing fetishes.

All these douchebags are married yet they are the ones on the crusade to defend our sanctity of marriage? And these idiots on the religious right fall for it.

And a wonderful hypocrisy moment:

MR. RUSSERT: Larry Craig, would you want the last word from the Senate be an acquittal of the president and no censure?

SEN. CRAIG: Well, I don't know where the Senate's going to be on that issue of an up or down vote on impeachment, but I will tell you that the Senate certainly can bring about a censure reslution and it's a slap on the wrist. It's a, "Bad boy, Bill Clinton. You're a naughty boy." The American people already know that Bill Clinton is a bad boy, a naughty boy.

I'm going to speak out for the citizens of my state, who in the majority think that Bill Clinton is probably even a nasty, bad, naughty boy. The question issue now is simply this: Did he lie under oath? Did he perjure himself and did he obstruct justice? And that's where we're trying to go now in this truth-seeking process.

heh he actually called the president a naughty boy .. so many of them sound like the church lady from snl

anyways as funny as this is it's still a bit disturbing that foot tapping will get you arrested

craig: oh yeah naughty boy,so nasty...you just want to spank his ass till it get colored hmmmm.....

reporter: eh what?

craig: ah!...end of transmision!

Wait... how can you be arrested for letting others know that you want to have sex?

omg people actually responded to this thread ...I was starting to think tapping your foot/waving your hand was an unspeakable crime in America

He plead guilty but now is saying that he didnt do anything that would justify an arrest. He apparently thought it would go away if he paid his 500 something dollar fine. Who cares if he did it anyway.

See boys? Homosexuality is a crime in the US. So you can't say my country is bad because you can get arrested for obscenity if you are homosexual here. :p

'Cause that'd be like saying that the US is bad, and everybody knows that the US is awesome.

....... Right?

homosexuality is not a crime in the US, sex in public washrooms is ..which more than often meant homosexuals were targeted ..but it is not the same as having little to no rights as is the case in south korea

I guess MN police are going to release the interrogation tapes, breaking on MSNBC now. This is going to be very interesting.

Edit:

It's up:

WASHINGTON - Sen. Larry Craig denied soliciting an undercover police officer shortly after being arrested for alleged lewd conduct in a bathroom at a Minneapolis airport, an audio recording of the arrest revealed.

Craig said on the recording, released Thursday by the Minneapolis Police Department, that he may have touched the officer's foot with his foot while they were in stalls. "You said our feet bumped; I believe they did," Craig said, adding that he was scooting over. "Next thing I knew, underneath the bathroom divider comes a card that says 'Police.'"

The Republican senator from Idaho also said he placed his hand underneath the stall to pick up a paper, not to solicit the officer.

'I'm not gay," Craig said. "I don't seek activity in bathrooms."

The officer said he was disappointed in the senator.

"You are sitting here lying to a police officer," the officer responded. "People vote for you. Unbelievable."

Been talked before many times on The Colbert Report and The Daily Show.

I still can't work out what they arrested him for. Lewd conduct? What is this, 1812?

It does seem kind of bogus to me too. I mean, I support him getting his life ruined for his hypocrisy, but all he did was basically flirt with a guy in another stall. It's not like he offered money or actually made a contract whether literal or implied through speech to have sex with an individual.

I mean yeah, you can arrest a guy for pulling up beside a hooker and soliciting her for sex. But I don't think you can do that in this situation. The most you could get on him I would imagine is very minor harassment if the person in the other stall didn't like what he was doing.

Doesn't matter if there was some 'secret code' or not. There's nothing inherently illegal about finding a lover in a bathroom as disturbing as that is.

Am I allowed to have straight sex in public bathrooms? I'm pretty sure thats illegal as it should be.

depending ...does a washroom stall become a private space when you enter it or does it remain a public space? if it's private meaning you have some rights to privacy than a case could be made that sexual behaviour isnt violating public decency laws

It doesn't even mean he wanted to have sex in the bathroom though. There's nothing illegal about hitting on somebody in a bathroom and then the two of you going someplace else to have sex. Maybe in the airplane bathroom.

Daddy, why are there 2 people in that stall and why are they moving around so much? It sounds like one of them is in pain. :E

Don't get me wrong, I am all for some crazy public sex but don't necessarily think it should be legal because I don't really want to be sitting there taking a shit while 2 guys in the stall next to me are blowing each other. Just my personal opinion.

Well I guess this was a popular spot for random gay sex. So I'm pretty sure they had no intention of of going elsewhere and it is probably the reason there was an undercover cop staking out the bathroom. But I agree, if he wanted to fight it he probably would have gotten away with it using that argument, instead he decided to plead guilty.

I think you nailed it on the head when you said this:

I don't really want to be sitting there taking a shit while 2 guys in the stall next to me..

the law was specifically enacted as part of a moral push to stamp out homosexuality in the 50's and 60's by targeting their "meeting places" .in certain parks it was a crime to walk around unaccompanied after dark because the thinking was that you were up to no good ..of the homersexual kind

curious, anyone know whether the mile high thing is a crime? because that would be one hell of a double standard if it wasnt

They could probably take you in for 'suspected terrorism' these days because you're secreting an unauthorized white, gooey liquid that could potentially, maybe, possibly used in a bomb.

And I am not suprised that this is the case. I'll be honest, even as liberal as I am I would probably be a little more disgusted if it was 2 dudes doing it, but that doesn't mean it should be okay for straight couples to do it. I'm fine with it being illegal in both cases. Do what you want when you are in a private bedroom, but lets be honest, a bathroom stall is a fairly public place.

I'm forced to concur, it is truely depressing.

(As a member of the religious right, just one who doesn't "fall for it". Frankly, there just are no good candidates for much of anything. Very few people actually have any integrity anymore. :(
